super 6 is better than having quarter finals. The groups aren't even so you might end up having 2 of the best teams in a knockout quarter final, whereas with super 6, you'll end up with the best 4 sides in the semis.
That's assuming that one of the best teams in your scenario aren't finishing 4th in their group and the points carried forward aren't being manipulated like they were at the 99 World Cup.

points carried forward is no good.

well they can't all start again on 'zero' points surely - when you only play 3 teams in the super 6 stage.

carrying ALL points earned in the group stage is perhaps the better way - rather than only the points against the teams you go thru to the super 6 with.

otherwise australia losing to singapore in the group stage for example, but still qualifying (and say singapore don't) , has no bearing on the comp whatsoever.
australia could still every other game in the group stage and take MAXIMUM points.

In the 03 World Cup they used the following points carried forward:
4 for a win over another qualifier
1 for a win over a non-qualifier
2 for a tie or no result against another qualifier
0.5 for a tie or no result against a non-qualifier.

maybe they used the one i was talking about in '99

either way its not ideal.

problem is when you beat a team in the group stage you don't know what points ya taking there and then until all the matches have been played.

one thing for sure though, its better than sudden death quarter finals like '96 , '11, '15.

i do like the round robin format, or a second stage like a super 6/8 to get to the BEST 4.

The answer put T20 cricket in the Olympics. Scrap T20 world cups, being an Olympic sport will drive growth and investment into the sport. Also means we aren’t wasting time with a meaningless T20 world cups every second year

They're only meaningless to Australians because we've never hosted one and we don't care about cricket until it happens in Australia. Every other nations rates winning the T20 World Cup highly.

Got mates from England South Africa and NZ and they all believe they are meaningless. India is the driver for the worst form of cricket

England have literally been resting blokes from Test cricket to play T20 bilateral series to prepare for the T20 World Cup.

They aren’t playing the blokes who have comeback from the IPL and haven’t played FC cricket. Also what the ECB decides isn’t a reflection on the fans now. Cricket Australia keeps trying to push T20 and the big bash yet the fans abandon it

I'm talking about the Sri Lanka and India test tours where Buttler, Stokes, Archer, Wood, Bairstow, Wood, Curran, Ali were all rested at some point from the Tests but were all made available for the white ball India series.

If you and your friends find the T20 World Cup meaningless you're missing out on some great cricket. Not only does it allow smaller nations a chance on the big stage it's also got all the best players playing against each other which so rarely happens in T20 cricket. It's a great tournament.

Yeah and Buttler is the only regular named there that they don’t have to manage their body’s. Archer and Stokes obviously best IX but their are durability issues with both

It's not really for you and your mates, though. Cricket bodies know that if people don't want to watch a particular form of cricket, it doesn't turn them off the other forms. But T20 is brilliant at getting new people into the game, and it's meaningful for them.

The highest rating match on Sky cricket outside the 2019 World Cup is the 2016 World T20 Final. Someone in England must be finding meaning in it.

I don’t disagree with this but look at how 7s rugby grew massively on the back of Olympic inclusion. Like T20 cricket it was used and used successfully to grow the game into new markets but becoming an Olympic sport took that growth to a new level. Now we are seeing more countries play the game and professional leagues starting up where there was none.

Having the T20 champions crowned at the Olympics will help the game grow more than playing a World Cup every second year

Yes it's certainly given Rugby Union a mammoth booth in Australia.

It actually has, but that’s just women’s programs that have grown. Also the fact that rugby is in a bad way in Australia is is irrelevant to the fact that it has been growing quickly internationally as a result of 7s and Olympic participation

I'd love cricket in the Olympics, too.
