Player Watch #21: Callum Coleman-Jones - out for season after suffering Achilles rupture vs CFC on GoodFriday - go well CCJ

Feel like a study of this bloke's head would show that it's completely empty. There's not a lot going on upstairs but there's something there nevertheless. It'll be about whether we can extract that something out of him
Well despite the fact Will Minson was an astrophysicist, he wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed. Ruckman generally not known for their cerebral playing style, CCJ fits in well with his brethren

Still has to get rid of the Richmond DNA (missed set shot) and he'll be a very good player for us.

Only 15 games is extraordinary.

He didn’t have an outstanding game and had a couple of howlers (critical miss from 15m out + tapping the ball straight to the opposition ruck) but the team is so much better balanced with him vs another full time ruckman.

Not many 23 year old ruckmen are having outstanding games.
He’s a work in progress that will take time, but he’s going to be ok.

Look phrenology is largely discredited but I reckon you might be onto something here. Lachie “couldn’t use Microsoft word” Hansen territory. And that’s fine, he’s a footballer. Thought he was good yesterday too.

His timing at centre square bounces is way off at the moment - he couldn’t even co-ordinate getting a jump at the ball on occasions yesterday.
This should improve with experience & confidence.
Around the ground ball ups & throw ins, when he can use his strength, he is much better.
His defensive follow up work is incredible - he laid some big tackles.
He should be aiming to finish off the year really strongly & lock in that second ruck spot.
Needs to start clunking some marks & kicking the odd goal.

A lot of people are going to be made to look foolish for criticising the trade in which we got CCJ.
I'll go along with that around the ground, and on the forward line, but at this stage anyway, not in the ruck. Goldstein is that much a better ruckman, it's not even worth discussing.
