Player Watch #21: Jacob Townsend - JJ Liston Medalist 2017

Starting to get the feeling Woody takes exception to Towner's late hit on Danger. Could be wrong though.
Funnily enough he’d have been given a holiday if there was anything wrong with it. The only thing wrong with it was he didn’t hit him hard enough.

I think you just learned that secretly Hardwick doesn’t value late hits on blokes and guys who can’t get their hands on the pill. Can never be taken away from him - his premiership - but his time in the AFL is over and was last year!
Yet Butler stays in?? Guy might have had 11 tackles, but is too small to impact. Menadue has shown nothing, 5 games and he's had 1 good game??

So frustrating not seeing him given another chance, I know they should be able to step straight in, but surely he would be better this week and show us what he's capable of.

No fan of Butler but we are unprepared to let go of our game plan where we stack the side with small, of which one is playing anything resembling consistent football.

Not many options at present
I reckon with Reiwoldt back and Ross in the middle, we won’t be looking like the mosquito fleet.
But either way Towner isn’t the way forward

Against Coburg which is a slight step up from EDFL. Lets keep it in perspective mate .
Wait so, 5 goals in the VFL = "perspective" but not influencing a game when we get absolutely hammered by the top of the ladder team in the AFL = gone?

Ok then.

hope we are playing him as a permanent forward in the 2's. he is never going to get a spot in the 1's midfield. he could get a spot as wrecking ball tackler, who is a dead eye dick shot at goal with his limited opportunities.

We were belted by the Cats with him in the team; with an inferior team (minus Cotchin and Edwards) we were in the game against the Crows until the last 10 minutes.
Seriously, for all the claims of ‘making players walk taller’ and ‘making opponents tremble’ he did neither against the Cats and barely touched the ball and yes possessions are not the be all and end all, but they do indicate you are at least involved). He was similarly poor in 2018 in his senior games and was ultimately dropped. He is two years removed from the 2017 five week purple patch, yet people cling to the fact that it’s coming back. With the likes of Cotchin, Edwards, Lambert and Astbury due back .... and at some point Riewoldt and co .... he is further back in the pack. Move on.

Yes as these are two different levels.
He was shown up last year that he couldn’t meet the standards of AFL and the club threw him a lifeline. So they could see the same things wrong with him and it was proven against the Cats his time was up at AFL level . Next please.

Sadly, this is pretty spot on.
Premiership hero. Always sad to let them go.

The AFL is littered with spuds who rack up the goals at Vfl level and then don’t fire a shot when promoted... we’ve had a few of them. Hello Aaron Edwards, Brad miller, Liam bean, etc
