I thought he was going to leave because of Ben Brown?

For those that have watched him play. Do you think he is close to getting into the team, maybe even round 1, next year ?
- From memory he was an emergency at least once.

With a healthy pre season I reckon he's capable of playing round 1, not sure if Goody will see it that way though.
They also could've photoshopped a Melbourne jumper on him in that graphic at least.

If we come up with a more efficient way of sending the ball forward then yes . If we are going to continue to bomb it to the pocket then who knows what the coach wants to do . At the least I’d give him a couple of games early to give him a taste .

Hard to imagine him not playing in rd 1 if fit unless TMac and Brown have monster pre seasons. Goodwin made some odd choices this year, I really don't think he handled defending the flag very well as he coached very safely and hoped things would click, but its very rare that a good young player doesn't get opportunities for us.

I don't think JVR is a walk up starter in round 1. As you said the selectors were very conservative and stuck with the same forwards. If anything I would imagine that JVR will be the one to have a big preseason.

They only did it because they believed we were still great and things would click. Goodwin was pretty open after the end of the season in saying that he was wrong and it just didn't work. I'd be surprised if all of Grundy, Hunter, JVR, McDonald and Bowey aren't included in round 1. Probably JJ too.

Jackson, Hunt, Melksham, Rivers, Hibberd and Brown would be my outs.

Hard to remember given it has been so long, but Goodwin was a pretty adventurous coach before this season. I reckon he'll go back to that now we're part of the chasing pack again. He fumbled expectation management hard this year.

To be honest I actually forgot about Melksham, would imagine we'll be seeing more jvr next year rather than persisting with Melksham. Still wouldn't say he's an automatic walk up start but hopefully he has a good pre season and we see him earlier than later.

Melksham replaced Tmac though so if Tmacs fit and ready he has to play.

Is this with Brayshaw going back again? Because you've dropped 3 defenders and added Bowey.

True, to be fair my original post I said that jvr would be the one needing a big preseason to get a head of Brown and tmac. I still think we'll start to see some jvr next year.

I'm hoping it's Tmac and JVR. Browns *in cooked not to be all danster

fingers crossed! Hunter to the wing, Harmes to the middle, Brayshaw to HB.

I'm gonna be bloody furious if Gus doesn't go back. Never was a huge fan of his but he was a bloody star at half back. As good as any marking half back in the comp.

Obviously like any young player he'll need to be fit and firing during pre-season to play round 1, but you'd be disappointed if Plan A right now wasn't for JVR to be starting the season.

You'd have to think that he's been given a fair bit of confidence that he's in a good position to do that to sign an extended deal now. It would be odd to sign a 3 year deal before debut if you're worried there's a risk you'll be stuck in the 2s most of the year.

I reckon the best forwardline available to us round 1 next year is:

Grundy - TMac - Chandler/ANB (or a draftee if they're a specialist HFF who's ready to go)
Kosi - Fritsch - JVR

I'm hopeful that rather than play tall forward, Grundy and Gawn will mainly play in tandem as back half ruckman/forward half ruckman so they can read the play and float in for a few grabs but not be target forwards we're structured around.

Based on nothing I think Schache can turn it around giving us JVR, Schache or Petty, Fritsch, Kossie, a hybrid of TMac’s knee and BBB’s foot and guest appearances from Trac and Max as our forward line with sundry supporting cast.
