Clearly fills a need. We lost a few small mid/ fwd, fwd types in Green, Colyer and Jackson Merrett. Next year we will lose Baguley and Long.

He wont be required in 2019 and id love him to finish his schooling whilst training and playing VFL with the club.

Precisely.

His year 12 schooling is the priority, and his commitments at the club should be scaled accordingly.

From what I've heard I'm certain this will be the case.

Story goes that Irving's father is a community leader and he wants Irving to be one as well. It is the reason he and his brother moved over to the east coast to board with a teacher who had done a stint in the west and developed a good rapport with them all. Getting a good education for his boys seems to be the whole idea.

Initially didn't like the nickname "Mozzie". Possibly a vegetarian. Wasn't too keen on his tucker early days in vic.

Congrats on the pick up guys. Very talented player with a great eye for the goal.

If you ever wanted a way to lift team spirits then this man is perfect. Smiling 100% of the time.

His personality reminds me of Cyril so hopefully for you guys he can perform like him.

BT will have a fun time calling his name alongside Tippa, The Package & ORAZIO FANTAAAASSIA.

Best of the Hawthorn board thread. BEFORE the draft:

Will definitely be at the club next year, 100%

100% committed to taking him.

4th best on ground from 10 touches. Couldn't be any more like Cyril.

He will be in the brown and gold next year, nothing surer.

Moves like 08 Cyril.

Sticks tackles he shouldn't. Blind turns out of traffic followed by lace out passes. Speed , goal sense, awareness, hits targets, clearences..

And AFTER:

Off to the scum.

He was worth a rookie spot and that is about it. Essendon have seriously overreached by trying to be too clever at #38.

Still maintain the Bombers outsmarted themselves and the fake fist pump goes a long way in proving that

Essendon fans will just have to live with getting the players Hawthorn reject.

Just out of curiosity, how old is the boy?

Has he or will he turn 18 this year or next?

If he came down from the bush it is likely that he was a fair bit behind in his academic competencies. So he's probably been given an extra year at school. You're funded at a public school until you're 20.

When Irving moved to Gippsland in 2012, his literacy skills were equivalent to Prep level and his understanding of Standard Australian English was limited because in Halls Creek he spoke Aboriginal English, Jara and Gija. But his potential shone through.
