    WooHoo. Nice drafting. Welcome Nick.

Of course, if history is anything to go by now we've done this perfectly legal trade we'll probably have Eddie start whining and the AFL will knee-jerk slap some kind of ban on us. Maybe make us start 10 goals behind each game or reduce our player payments cap down to the Australian minimum hourly wage (paid only for actual hours played). Then watch how our players waste the clock.

"Ultimately, the Swans moved up four spots in this year's draft and ensured they used only their later picks for Blakey, all for the cost of downgrading their 2019 second-round selection to a third-round pick.

The masterstroke was devised by Swans' senior analyst Chris Keane on Thursday morning, allowing the Swans to attack this year's draft, while assisting the Eagles in 2019.

"We saw the AFL to see whether it was legal to separate the two deals and do the trade for 26 first and then their 22 afterwards," Swans list chief Kinnear Beatson said.

"The AFL approved that and of course it needed goodwill with clubs that they're going to stand by their word.

"Every trade has to be ticked off by the AFL and they were prepared to do that.

"We saw Ken Wood (AFL TPP manager) and his team and they were 100 per cent it was legal.

"Creative thinking perhaps, but I don't think we've rorted any system, no."

Incredible how much he moves like his dad. Feels like watching through a time warp.

So we traded out pick 26 for a future 3rd > Picked Blakey up for 34, 39, 40 > Traded in pick 22 for future 2nd...

Essentially improved 4 spots this year by downgrading a future 2nd for future 3rd rounder AND didn't have to use it for Blakey... Bloody genius!

I’d actually rather him have 9 games under his belt already when he play North so he can tear them a new one.

I don't think they will be fighting for the same spot as McCartin will be fighting for a position in the forward line against Reid and Blakey will be fighting for a position on the wing, or elsewhere in the midfield. We have to look at Blakey as a very tall midfielder in 2019 rather than a key forward.

Imo he will start as a forward similar to heeney until he finds his feet/ builds fitness base up so he can run through the middle

According to Beatson anyway they are thinking half forward, wing and even half back, so a bit of everywhere, though I hope like hell we try him in the guts too because I saw the footage of him as an in and under midfielder and he is bloody good at reading the play and getting the ball out.

This is the best photo I could get of John Blakey from behind (even the footy cards did not seem to have his number)

    Is that a 12?

He sounds like a worthy successor to the 37 though. Quite a bit of Adam Goodes in him in terms of qualities.
