I would like to see how long Sam can hoof it at times

if he can pivot the transition and launch across to the fat side or deep into/near the forward line it would give defences night mares. This is where if he is near a flank it can be direct forward or at a diagonal but if he is in the guts apart from direct forward his long launchs would be restricted by the confines of the boundary line in theory

I reckon Sam Cumming could play wing.

I am not talking exclusively because he could play forward and inside as well.

I think give Sam as many games as possible as he builds, do not overly push especially straight away but he could be rotated around a bit. so really Sam should play game one if he can I think, ease him in, cover for a few spots help him get used to the pace of the game intensity etc.. I do not think it hurts anyone he moves around a little position wise as he has plenty of attributes and makes it hard for oppositions to track
Perhaps, not sure if he has the running game et, but he made the AA side as a half forward, so he has flexibility which as you say is handy.

hes about as defensive as an indoor plant, get real. all he can do is run.
His defensive side improved a lot. Noted it quite often that he got back into the last line of defence, even took a few marks back there. Players improve the weaker part of their games. His kicking to me is a bit more of a worry. For a running player his passing game is still a weak point. Time will tell.

Richo mentioned on Talking Tigers that a very good junior footy talent person (unnamed) compared Cumming to Dangerfield.

Thought that was a bit rough on the boy tbh haven’t seen him even flop once yet
He was referring to Shifter for sure

Grain of salt there

You ever have that thing that you get overly annoyed about for no reason?
Well, mine is when people call him Cummings instead of Cumming.

Infuriating.

It’s the Stephen Hawkings thing all over again

Would like to know his time on ground. I was hoping for more production purely based on how highly I rate him.

According to RTs cba stats he attended almost every centre square bounce in 2nd half and a couple in 2nd Q. So assume he was on for a lot of it.

To me he looked half a step off the pace for the first 3/4s, looked best in last but sting was out of the game. But its game 1, he’ll be much better for the run.

I think this is right.

We have to remember he is a first year inside mid, and not being introduced to a well oiled midfield. he will be slightly hesitant until he understands where he should be at any given time, and listening to player interviews, that part really takes time. There are almost no examples of 18yo's stepping into that role and firing for a whole season in the last generation or so.

I want to see sam as the prime mover in the centre a few times, hes a ball hunter and we've got too many old campaigners in his way.

Be patient

Kid is in year 1 and 18 year old
We need to look after him and not smash him from day 1 , Give him a taste here and there but 20% mid time should be max and we are not winning a flag in the next 3 years so lets develop these kids correctly

I reckon hes the type that just wants to be the man in there. tarranto and hopper do their best work as transition mids pushing forward not inside. they need to get the **** out of sams and lalors way before they turn them into hack kick clearance specialists.
