Todd Goldstein is a man of great character. In the face of adversity, the Roos’ big man refused to cower and instead stood even taller.

With just seconds left on the clock, the 29-year-old had the ball in his hands just 20 metres out on a slight angle, with a chance to seal a come-from-behind win for North.

But instead of sending the ball through the middle of the big sticks, Goldstein hooked his kick and registered a behind that left North four points shy of the Dockers’ score.

When the Roos retreated to their change rooms after the final siren and another shattering loss, Goldstein was the first to emerge from the locker room.

Never one to shy away from reality, ‘Goldy’ got on the front foot with The Herald Sun and spoke openly about the dying minutes.

“It is one of those things you train for and it didn’t go my way but at least I had the chance to have a shot,” Goldstein said.

“I would have liked to have finished it off.”

North has now had four losses by a combined total of 10 points.

“I am not too sure what went wrong but I felt the ball slipping a bit as I was kicking it and I just didn’t get great purchase so I hooked it a little bit right,” Goldstein said about his kick.

“I remember seeing Hamish McIntosh (missing a late shot) a few years ago so it happens but I just have to keep working on it and execute it next time.

“At the time I wasn’t thinking about (being a hero), it was just what I needed to do and go through my routine and I just didn’t quite execute it.”

While the North players were bitterly disappointed after another loss, Goldstein’s leadership is another example that Shinboners are never beaten.
"Goldstein's leadership"

Lol.

Thought he had a really good second half and i was really disappointed for him missing that shot.

In saying that - he played against a 2nd/3rd gamer and im still not seeing what Goldy used to do for us and that is playing as another mid. He used to get multiple possessions out on the wing all on his own and would often be found streaming into HFF with ball in hand - he just doesnt do that much anymore. I can only assume he cant get the kms in his legs at the minute for some reason and it means he has to be a physical bash and crash ruckman and it just isnt his game.

Wont be dropped for that game

why do people always assume he's playing injured? whatever story you believe hes had a big few years (non football related) whoever you are that affects everyone in different ways, his life has completely changed.
every player is different, some hold their elite form longer than others, he has been a sole ruckmen for a fair while now, carrying a load like that will wear your body down, gone are the days where we will see todd star week in and week out, will still be a solid player but wont see his best like we used to.
He wont be at north next year, only playing so they get trade value out of him.

Okay, now if his touch and skill execution were on song yesterday, roughly where would you have placed him in our bests/worsts?
Yeah. he'd be up there

Once again, he wasn't our worst. Missing the goal triggers all his detractors straight away. He just looks to have no confidence.

If a Mason Wood got that last free he would have strutted back to take the kick, Goldy looked like he had the weight of the world on his shoulders. His face almost showed fear.

Thank you.

Effort is not the issue. It's confidence.

The arseholes over the fence aren't helping him.

surprised he didn't get toweled up by darcy, took some strong marks on the wing and got around the ground a bit. You take out the fumbles and he'd be getting back on track to where he used to be.

Admittedly his overhead marking was a lot better on the w/e but that play-on late in the game when he snapped for a point rather than going back. then the kick that missed! I mean what the hells going on???

Commenting on the kick in isolation his action was downright terrible. and this criticism isnt solely aimed at goldy but he has had 10 years as a full time professional footballer to address his set shot routine, golfers work on their swing day in day out, surely these blokes hang around training for a lazy half hour with a kicking coach and can work out their routines??? think about it, 10 years training 3 days a week, and an extra 90 minutes a week. hardly a lot to ask of a pro sportsman.

btw that bronx cheering shit is really crap.

You're right on this Snake. Remove 5-6 fumbles and 2-3 marks that he probably should have gobbled and even with that shocking miss I would have given him a solid 8.5-9. The effort was pretty good and he did "the right things" they just didn't all work for him. It was frustrating to watch him because of this but it wasn't an awful game.
