Sorry to hear about Thredgold, exciting tall prospect. FWIW his Lisfranc whilst significant is not at the higher end in severity.

Hopefully the club shares the view of most posters here and puts a line through him this year ready for next year. Harrison Petty is a case study in what not to do.

Put him on the LTI and let him spend the year in the gym, building strength. Been plenty of talls who haven’t played early and it’s done them a world of good (Thilthorpe, Darcy etc).

If it’s Lisfranc and 4-5 months, 0 point rushing him back for 6-7 games at end of the year without any setbacks.

Also allows us to add another SPP to help the back 6.
Thilthorpe debuted in round 6 of the 2021 AFL season, as he was impressive with 16 disposals and kicked 5 goals.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riley_Thilthorpe#cite_note-:0-5"><span>[</span>5<span>]</span></a> His 5 goals is the highest ever by a Crows debutant, tied with Josh Rachele, who matched the record a year later. Jason Dunstall noted the performance as "the emergence of a future star."<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riley_Thilthorpe#cite_note-6"><span>[</span>6<span>]</span></a>

In Round 13, against St Kilda, Thilthorpe kicked the match-winning goal over his head on his opposite boot in the last minute of the game. It completed Adelaide's 36-point comeback.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riley_Thilthorpe#cite_note-7"><span>[</span>7<span>]</span></a> Thilthorpe was rewarded with the NAB AFL Rising Star nomination for Round 13.

Poor kid ☹️

Hopefully the healing process (surgery or no surgery) goes well and he can still reach his potential.
Blake has a lot of traits we need down back, big part of our future.
Dr Google says

Treatment
  • Non-Surgical: If no fractures are present and bones are not shifted, the foot is immobilized in a cast or boot for 6–8 weeks, with no weight-bearing.
  • Surgical: Required if the joint is unstable or ligaments are torn, involving ORIF (Open Reduction Internal Fixation) using screws, plates, or pins, or midfoot fusion in severe cases.

Recovery and Complications
  • Recovery Time: Full recovery can take up to a year.
  • Complications: If left untreated, it can lead to chronic pain, instability, and long-term arthritis. Even with treatment, arthritis can develop later in life.

I don’t know if this is just bad luck, a curse or mismanagement, but it is so NM.
Curse/bad luck seems most likely for this one. The usual way to do a lisfranc (says google) is something/someone landing on your foot either with enough force to do the damage by itself or enough to cause you to twist/flex your foot wrong. Severe ones used to end careers, but there's surgery now if it's severe.

Hopefully a light one. I'm holding onto the fact Andrew Russell (high performance trainer - Carlton didn't work out but he still has 6 premierships on his CV) said these longer term injuries for new kids can be an advantage long run that lets them focus on body and conditioning year 1 - he was talking in the context of Jagga Smith post Russell's sacking.

Six months the latest word on Blake Thredgold. Rotten luck but little surprise - it’s the same time frame as Melbourne’s Jake Bowey, who suffered the injury in December.
chuck him on LTI will miss the whole vfl season then (assuming we don't make finals)

bring in Becker as ssp

I went down to training today and spoke with Blake he said it was a 15 to 20 week injury and he would be spending the year bulking up in the gym. He is a quality young lad a real nice kid.
So at the upper end of that scale there’d still be like 10 rounds of VFL left in the h&a season.

Why would the club not put him on LTI? He will be back with a handful of games left and that is without any setbacks at all?

Let him get his body right, smash the gym and let another player have a full season at it.
Because half a dozen games and possible VFL finals exposure, do more for your development than sitting games out does.
Exposure to even VFL level (if 100% medically cleared) is a leg up on next year. It could be a carrot for a young guy who's dream is shattered this season. Gives him a little something extra to attack his rehab with in a new city. The call can be made at the mid season draft anyhow. Many of the names we are looking at aren't going to magically transform us this season so there is no rush

In all likelihood we are going to have other LTI's between now and when he is recovered.
