Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

Lance Franklin
DOB: 30 January 1987
DEBUT: 2005
DRAFT: #5, 2004 National Draft

Silly analogy.
Sooooo comparing someone who has been abused not returning and being exposed to that situation again to someone being repeatedly abused not returning to be exposed to that situation is a silly analogy. Right.

Ok. You find out your child is being verbally abused by their teacher on a daily basis, confirmed by other students in their class. Do you send your child back into that classroom and tell them to be the bigger person?

There's no comparison to the proximal relationship or fiduciary relationship in either of your examples. I get you are emotive, but emotions and exaggerations don't make you right, just silly.

It's a car going round the g for a few minutes , if a player doesn't want to go so be it I guess

Not worth endless discussion. Knock yourselves out if you want too of course

It is impossible to judge Franklin without knowing his reasons, and the more valid his reasons are, the less likely he may feel comfortable to share them.

All I know is that Franklin suffers from anxiety and doesn’t feel comfortable with the attention on him (when he is not playing footy).

It’s pretty clear that if he joined the motorcade, most of the attention would have been on him.

What else do we know? At least some proportion of the crowd would have booed him.

We don’t know how much the Goodes issue affected him (think about Rioli retiring and no one knowing why at the time).

There could also be all sorts of other issues. He might not like the way the AFL treated his recruitment by Sydney. The referendum is just around the corner.

There could be any sorts of things at play (and none of the above).

He might also just have been being selfish and saw nothing in it for him.

I suspect we will never know.

Sorry Buddy, the many games you have won singlehandedly are now null and void.

1000+ AFL goals and making it to 4th on the all-time goalkicker list? That no longer means anything.

All your achievements, Coleman Medals and AA selections among other accolades and highlights? Nobody will remember those.

What is really important in an AFL players' career is sitting in the back of a ute for a few minutes before the grand final. Everybody knows that's what really creates legacies.

I swear this board is fascinated/intrigued by the stupidest s**t.

1. Haircuts
2. Grand Final farewells
3. "Media" Personality "hot" takes.
