Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

Lance Franklin
DOB: 30 January 1987
DEBUT: 2005
DRAFT: #5, 2004 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Dowerin (WA)/Perth (WAFL)/Hawthorn

Also to piss off everyone who said he wouldn't see out his contract
How brilliant would it be if next year he not only kicks his 1000th goal and reaches the top 5, but if we also snagged the flag!
That would be a brilliant :handpointup:to all the arseholes that doubted not only him, but the club for signing him to such a long contract.

I mean I get that we get emotional, but that's a bit harsh on Tedeski .

At around $21,687.75 per goal for our club, Buddy & some of you guys have really stuck it right up me!:think:
To each their own Ted. Personally I think he's been worth every cent and I've not once regretted him becoming a Swan - more the polar opposite.

I have actually loved having him too.
All I've done is say Buddy's contract is the reason we have had little depth over these last few years.
It's the reason we brought in players like Taylor, Gray, Clarke etc.

If Bud added 10,000 members at $400 each he has brought in $4million per year to the club. Arguably less, arguably more but probably a heck of a lot more than his contract cost.

$21,687.75 per goal is actually relatively cheap.
Sam Reid, assuming 500k in the past 5 years is 35,714.29 (and yes I have pulled these numbers out of my arse but I doubt they are too far off)
Papley on $700,000 for the past three years is probably our best with just under 20k per goal.
Papley would be the most economic on our team besides the rookies atm.

Once again all these numbers are thereabouts and change easily, but I'm pretty sure Buddy would compare favourably against 70-80% of the competition, even after missing 2 years on the most lucrative contract in the game.

Not to mention his influence in kids taking up aussie rules and joining the academy and being drafted by the Swans

Yes true.
Nick Smith was expensive too.

Mitch Cleary reporting Swans have requested Round 1 at the SCG, no opponent.

This is silly. Surely the club doesn't think he will come out and kick 5 goals in the first game of the season.
