Buddy's nine year contract when signed seemed a million miles away. Now the ninth year is imminent.
What a glorious ride it has been.
The goals from the left side of field I have enjoyed the most. In his last few strides he veers away from goal and kicks 60+m bombs that are steered right and fade left between the sticks.
For a superstar he is humble. Even takes out his own bins.
For our young recruits, it must be amazing just training with him.
I for one will enjoy watching him play this year. The big Bud.

Think back to a game against Port in 2014 where we had no right but buddy said nope and kicks 5 in the second half two monsters from outside 50 n the last 10 mins. Crazy

No other player has given me as many genuine belly laughs as Buddy. This includes games I watched when he played at Hawthorn. The two things bigger than his size and ability have been his appetite for and imagination of the game.

He has the alpha wolf's hunger for the ball and the contest. No-one demands the ball more than Buddy. This is not just from team mates but of the footy gods. For all this he is not selfish. He will always look for mates in better positions while backing himself to take the game by the scruff of the neck when needed.

It is his imagination that I think brings so much joy and mirth. It often gets him into strife when he takes on the improbable - breaking successive tackles for example -and falling short. In the moment he is cranky, 'how could I not do that?' But then he shakes it off and tries something else that does come off.

His errors and triumphs can both make people laugh because of the sheer audacity of his imagination and the will to make the improbable happen.

Lost count of the amount of times I watched and said under my breath "you can't do that, it's not possible." Seconds later, jaw to the ground saying "well I guess you can do that."
