Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

Lance Franklin
DOB: 30 January 1987
DEBUT: 2005
DRAFT: #5, 2004 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Dowerin (WA)/Perth (WAFL)/Hawthorn

Even Adam Goodes managed 25 goals in 21 games in his last season at 35 years of age, from what I've seen I don't think Buddy will have a problem going for another 3 years after this season. Even if he doesn't play every game he'll still be good value IMO.

And it's a pretty good comparison too. Both supremely gifted, athletic and tall. Goodes was able to play on even when he was 70% of the player he used to be. Buddy will be the same.

I need more evidence before i subscribe to that..bloke has barely trained the last few years. Hes certainly off the boil but im putting that down to fitness rather than age

Thats fair

He looks really good in the first movement of a play..a lead, or a tackle, or a hit ,but it seems its the "second effort" that hes struggling with and by that its the kick after a lead or run etc.. almost like his legs are burnt.. the guy is too special to fall away over a summer. Once his conditioning gets to where it needs to be,he will be much better

Rumor has it that the Swans and Hawks will come to a handshake agreement to send Buddy back to Hawthorn.
Swans will be happy to have him off the books and Hawks will pay him a vastly decreased salary.

Jesinta will be extremely pissed if she has to move down to gloomy Melbourne. Jesinta is a Sydney girl through and through and the main reason we have buddy.

Everyone knows that if Jesinta wanted to move to Melbourne buddy would still be a hawk.

Back on topic, i think we are just seeing the physical demise of a heavy 30 plus-year-old. Yeah Goodes was able to still peak at 35 but Goodes physic was a lot different to Buddies. Goodes was lean, Buddy is on the border of exploding into one big fat unit like his old man.

Must be nuts to give up one of your marquee players unless of course there is a strong desire for him to go back.

Anyways this just sounds like another rumor whenever we lose a few games.

Where is this rumor from? Was this the one that was from the Herald Sun?

I doubt this rumor will come to much substance to be honest.

I don't think Goodes peaked at 35... He kept playing to a high enough standard.

And, while I see your point, I think you are being pretty harsh on Bud here. I don't think he's anywhere near "exploding into one big fat unit"...

This :thumbsu:

You have to also remember that Buddy has also been able to train very minimally which is always going to affect his body shape.

Give him a few more weeks, get some miles in the legs and see what happens. We also have to remember that whilst people like to point out the similarities between Goodes and Buddy they are vastly different players.
