Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

Lance Franklin
DOB: 30 January 1987
DEBUT: 2005

This :thumbsu:

You have to also remember that Buddy has also been able to train very minimally which is always going to affect his body shape.

Give him a few more weeks, get some miles in the legs and see what happens. We also have to remember that whilst people like to point out the similarities between Goodes and Buddy they are vastly different players.

My problem with this is that because he is playing and he is older now, it is unlikely that he will train much during the week. So while playing each week will hopefully improve his fitness, the lack of training during the week will mean he will struggle to cover the sort of ground that makes him so effective across 4 quarters.

Dont get me wrong he will still be a valuable player because he is that good, he just wont be as valuable as i think he could be with more training before coming into the side. We also should have been thinking strategically in the past by giving him the occasional week off so that he wasnt stuffed at the end of the season and that probably goes for a few other senior players as well.

Rumor has it that the Swans and Hawks will come to a handshake agreement to send Buddy back to Hawthorn.
Swans will be happy to have him off the books and Hawks will pay him a vastly decreased salary.
Source?

Would have to be one of the most farcical rumours I have ever read.....and that’s something given it’s BigFooty.

I doubt we'd take him if that was the case mate. Simply couldn't afford it.

Which is why i dont really see it happening. You guys arent in the middle of a premiership window and dont desperately need him and if we paid a big enough chunk of his salary for you to afford him then we dont really gain that much value from a trade.

Where is this rumor from? Was this the one that was from the Herald Sun?

I doubt this rumor will come to much substance to be honest.

Overheard in a train station while on the toilet.

It's around.
Source... Way sharper than bf.
Similar to when buddy went to the swans
It makes no sense though unless he's genuinely cooked. And even now he's still our most damaging player. I would be pissed if it happened.

The guy had major surgery on his groin. He is quite clearly being careful not to over exert the groin (on field only of course), so he needs 6 or so games to find full match fitness if we are to go by what the experts say & I remember Adam Goodes always taking at least 6 weeks to get rolling when ever he came back from injury.

Although I am particularly tougher on Buddy than any other one of our players when it comes to his poor games & where blame should be aimed at when we lose & he fails to score, I will most definitely back this champion in, every day of the week, to make an impact on this competition by the time the season is done.

Did anyone happen to mention the 5 day break after an interstate game in Melbourne? It can help explain some of the lethargic efforts from some of our players, Luke Parker in particular as he is an explosive hard at it competitor.

Make no mistake, Buddy will terrorise the Tigers this week at Marvel Stadium without Rance their to unfairly grapple with him before the ball is anywhere near the contest. We'll beat the Tigers this week.

Groin surgery + Franklin kicking action just thinking about it makes me shudder.

Seriously tho is there a more ridiculous notion that we will trade our most valuable asset and player.

This is just because we arent winning if we were 4-1 the article wouldnt exist, reminds me going way back to 2014 when we started 1-3 or 1-4 something and rumors of a punch on in the club with Buddy.

You wouldn't think so, but value wise we traded out Mitchell and he won a Brownlow

Mitchell is a dime dozen midfielder that doesn't put bums on seats, recruiting Franklin went way beyond just what he could do on the field.
Winning, not Franklin, puts bums on seats. Our average home attendance in 2006-7 was 35,000 and our average in 2017-18 with Franklin was 33,500.

I was a strong supporter of the Franklin acquisition, and I still am, but we've always known that his contract would have a hit in the last couple of years. It should be no surprise now, and I'd say we got a bargain out of him in the first few years. Is it any different to paying him $10m over 7 years instead? In total salary cap impact, no, but there's a clear differenve in the way people perceive it.
