You can love Myers and want to keep him, but admit you'd do it for pick 2. Pick 2 might get you a Wingard or Wines, with instant impact. Just can't see Melb doing it. And I :hearts: Myers
I'll trade Myers out for Aish anyday of the week, and even better if Bassett is set for Essendon since he coached him the last two years. Myers is potentially a damn good player, Aish is potentially great.

But yeah no ******* way Melbourne do it.

Yeah.. Myers showed a bit this year.. but he makes Scott Lucas look nimble.. not to mention he has a turning circle bigger than the titanic!

Would I trade Myers for pick 20? nup.. for NDS? nup.. for Pick 5 or better.. in a heartbeat!

Myers is B grade at best right now...

It's the first year where he played more than 15 games, if he can string a few seasons in a row with 20 games together he will become a really good player..

Why we should seriously look at offloading Myers for the right price, if the price is high enough.

Melbourne and Stkilda have both stated their interest in him and they ATM have some very nice draft picks potentially available. Hes also exactly what both teams need not only can he be your big bodied first hand to the ball inside midfielder but hes a potential leader and a very good one at that. Melbourne struggle enough with leadership as is and Stkilda once they lose Hayes and Riewoldt could be in some strife after losing Mcevoy.

The main reason i think we should look to offload him is because in 2015 (2 years time) he becomes a free agent. He will either be starting to become a very nice player or a nothing player at the age of 26. If hes becoming a nice player other clubs such as Freo, West Coast, Melb and stkilda will be offering him plenty of coin for a potential move for very little compensation. If hes not doing a lot we may well be in a position where he may no longer be required at the club as id say injuries would be the reason for the latter.

Im certainly no hater of Dave Myers in fact very much the opposite. I went to school with him, he was in the same house and caught the bus to school with him and participated in many athletic carnivals under his leadership. Hes a great guy.

But i think we are in a position where we could take advantage of the vulnerability of where the demons and saints find themselves. It would have to be for the right offer but id hate to see him leave just 2 years later for nothing in return. Hes definitely at his highest value right now and if he goes to the right club that value could be significantly increased.

It would have to be a great deal but our window is now and in the next 2 years. Guys like NDS, Montagna could help us get to the ultimate success and even then i dont think we are placing all our eggs in one basket.

I think with FA now you need to know when to hold them or fold them especially for those guys that are close to entering that phase do you trade them a year or 2 early to get something that relates more to their worth or risk losing them for way unders and a compensation no where near to match.

Another thing with NDS, Montagna is that they are both about to turn 29 however they are players who havnt had a lot of injury troubles and could play for many more years if needed. One of them could go on for another 4-5 quite comfortably and potentially play 100+ games for us. Will they give us more in those potential 100 games than what Myers may give to us in the next 2 years before he becomes a FA? Will Dave play another 100 games of AFL footy?

I say we keep him because it wasn't even two years ago everyone was saying Essendon had one of the weakest midfields in the league.

With FA the club we offer the player a contract extension with a year to go on their current contract and if the player drags it on /refuse to sign with the club he will be put on the trade table for other clubs to make offers.

So we won't lose him for nothing / crappy compensation picks. So if a player wants to look at his options/own interests when he becomes a RFA so will the club now.

Easy

If Myers isn't getting a decent run in the midfield at 24 YO, he's not really going to attract pick #2 surely?
Myers will not attract pick 2.
His value is a late first round pick (optimistically)
As he is contracted it would have to be better then that (overs) for it to be considered.
More likely to be a player for player swap. Ie if Polec wanted to come to Melbourne (just an example)

Cheers, sounds similar to what the saints would like for Dal Santo...

But Saints fans don't want lose a 200 game champ & bombers fans don't want to lose a promising, high draft pick mid.

Every club overrates their own I think.

That's the point we're making.

He played solely midfield in 2013, and the "more midfield time" reasoning is absolute utter bullsh*t.

I have heard from two different people.. who aren't idiots.. that Melbourne is interested in Myers.. and that a deal COULD include Pick 2..

Not sure what other window dressing it would needs (ie Myers + Pears + 22) etc etc.. but Pick 2 and Myers are being mentioned in the same breath..

Personally I don't think anything will come of it.. but it is out there for sure..
