Absolutely stoked with Weitering's first game. Couldn't have been more impressive really.
Not many players pick up the tempo of AFL like that. His a very special talent and most likely only second to Crippa on our list.

Not trying to be a kill joy, but is this really a surprise? No. 1 draft pick has a good nab cup series then debuts well. Should be the norm rather than the exception.

He's light years ahead of the last two number one KP picks were when they debuted (Boyd and McCartin) and is younger than both of them by 3 (Boyd) and 6 months (McCartin) when they debuted. I'd include Patton and say it's three but that's not fair on Patton due to the injuries he has dealt with since before he made his debut - at this point you almost need to put an asterisk on him. So while you may think it should be the norm it's proven to be otherwise especially considering that he's a young KP in the making.

Maybe not a surprise he is so good since he has been talked up massively, but the fact he is a key position player and very young makes his easy transition to AFL football almost unprecedented. Who else has done better in his position? That's why everyone is up and about.

75,000 crowd to debut in front of, season opener to boot! Unbelievably cool headed character, maybe his nickname should be "ICE"? Reads the play so well, kicking skills looked effortless as he just caressed it to each target without trying to kick the leather off it! Made good decisions all night, is it possible that this guy could be better than Cripps in a couple of years?? He ran 14.5 beep test at the draft combine btw... Midfield swingman?

As a number one pick you need to go back to Kreuzer to find a KP who had an impact in his debut season.

As a first year player it's Jesse Hogan but he missed his true first year and had the year to mature which from all reports helped him a lot (not to say that he wouldn't have been a gun in the missed year).

Kill joy BOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Jack Watts, Thomas Boyd & Paddy McCartin likes this.

As it's been said, while it's easy to think it should be the norm given the hype and everything these lads get, it's often not the case.

I remember before Boyd especially was drafted, everyone was saying he was "ready to go", "has no weaknesses", "will slot straight in as a dominant key forward" etc etc. Look how that turned out.

That's not to say that players like Boyd won't turn out to be guns, but young talls especially will need development and time to adjust to the faster tempo, build up to stand against the stronger/seasoned man bodies etc at AFL level. It's understandable. Someone like Wiener Ingredients is certainly not the norm, no matter his draft position.

"@ Bigfooty just want to confirm I pronounced it wang with a W."

You know a new young'un is good when you feel more confident when they're near or in possession of the ball over most of the older experienced guys.

He truly is a package. Already directing traffic, moves like a panther, great clean skills, solid in the air, great reader of the play.

Plus with that somehow always-neat hair do he actually does kind of resemble Superman.

Totally. When Weiters has the ball I have the exact opposite reaction to what I do when Cas has the ball.

Was it Cotchin he easily outbodied to take a contested mark on the wing?
It was. Poor Cotch looked rather confused afterwards as to what just happened lol. I think the two Tigers he easily sidestepped were Cotch and Martin too.

Looks a class above the rest is going to be a absolute gun for us. Love his composure and vision and love the fact he gave it to the flog Jack.
