i cant think of anyone i have seen come in and have an influence like he did especially playing a key defensive position. he just does everything right. his ball use and decision making is incredible. he could play anywhere. what a great kid we have.

didn't exactly dominate in his debut did he? 18 touches and a couple of intercept marks, 94%DE, solid game for veteran backman.
...if we could get that out of Rowe and Jamo week in week out we would be pretty happy...

the worst thing about this bloke is that we only have one of him!

After making a stellar debut in the Blues’ narrow loss to Richmond, experts were glowing in their praise of the 18-year-old, with some making some big predictions about where he may one day sit.

Weitering had 17 disposals and seven marks against Richmond but it was his cool head and smart ball use that had experts raving.
Speaking on SEN on Saturday, Herald Sun chief football writer Mark Robinson said he was staggered by the key defender’s debut, asking whether Weitering may one day become one of the great no.1 draft picks.

Well done Jacob - impressive debut.

Individually
Strong in 1:1 marking contests and intercept marks
Excellent under pressure - outlet hand passes and kicking

Appears to have very good endurance which will be a strength in the reduced interchange game
Doesn't look quick but his smarts should mean he can cover more space then most

Team Defense
Very keen to see how the defensive structures perform against a better team with more forward entries. Hard to judge errors from an individual in a team defense except 1:1 but Weitering appeared to play his role.

Yes, we were playing a team defence a lot. Riewoldt was often up the ground by himself with at least 2 backs maintaining a zone goalside about 60m out. This us why getting caught out on an overlap was not necessarily anybody's fault, just a calculated risk in the game plan.

As long as we temper our expectations and remain patient, I think these two will play a huge part in our rebuild.
We always hear about how tall forwards take time, and Curnow and McKay will be no different.
This core group of youngsters will grow together though, and I can see good times coming.
