Concerned about Weitering. Every time he touches it a commentator says he is oozing class. Does he have enough to spare to be oozing it all over the place? Seems a bit wasteful.

What if the AFL introduce a class rule and he has to leave the field every time he touches it to have his class mopped up.

I say trade now just in case.

Is it fair to ask whether he should be a forward, not a defender? I only say this because, to be quite frank, he looks like being a once in a generation player, and arguably you are better to have a champion forward than a champion defender, if you are lucky enough to have that choice. Of course this assumes he is a good forward too. But my point is, should Carlton trial him as a forward at some stage? I just think it is prudent to not decide too early that he shouldn't be a forward.

If Weitering is comfortable going forward, I'm all for it. We have others options that are developing though, and a QB-type key defender with absolutely elite decision making, disposal and intercept marking is also extremely valuable.

In terms of needs, we seem to be deficient in young key defenders.

Whatever makes Weiters happy. :)

Yes good call.
We have Curnow, SOS, McKay as future forwards, and less so down back, Plowman about it in addition to Weitering.

I think he should play defence this year and then forward from round 1 2017 for the rest of his career. Far too talented to be a backman and we can look towards developing Glass-McCasker along with Plowman as our two tall defenders.

I'm happy with him back, the modern method of team defence requires skilled athletic big defenders who can mark the thing and attack. Your low possession one on one old style of defender, the Jamison and Zac Dawson types are outdated. I'd hope JGM can be a good all round player as well, maybe not of the same calibre but you need these guys who have the smarts and skills like Weitering. You sure as hell need forwards too, that's where we need Curnow and McKay to become good footballers. If they do then Weitering forward wont be necessary.

Perhaps a similar career path to Silvagni where he plays mostly back but forward when needed. Would be great.

Tell me that shouldn't be the inaugural post in the You Cannot Be Serious thread?
This serious.

Just talking probabilities, but one of them won't 'make it'. Can't have your first three draft selections all turning out to be guns - just doesn't happen. It would break laws of physics, create wormholes and singularities and be the end of us all. Given that Weitering is gift from the heavens and guaranteed to succeed, it will be one of McKay or Curnow that falls flat.

End result - Weitering 80 goals per year.

You know it makes sense, I'm Sam Kekovic ShanDog.

We'll it just doesn't happen to Carlton, it happens to other clubs, a lot of the top sides have had a big bounty draft or two.

I'm not a draft expert at all but I struggle to think of a team who took a similar number of draftees in the first round and nailed them all. Gold Coast and GWS don't count - they have had like 7 picks in the top 20 a few times, including the first few picks overall. You got any examples? Maybe Hawks in the Buddy draft year?
