Something about this guy gives me confidence we have a good one. The fact that he already has that personal link to Roberts and he's his housemate and mentor fills me with confidence. Look at Roberts and the way he's surprised in such a good way. Just sense application, great talent and salt of the earth nature. I thought his latest interview was very impressive.

The fact that he was given 23 says a bit.

As kangle4 said, he's played 6 games in a VFL side that's been stripped bare by the injuries in the AFL team.
debatable that the team has anything to do with his very low numbers. But you’re right it’s only 6 games.
I just didn’t like anything about his underage tape, it was bizarre pick imo.

I didn't like the pick, but the VFL team are a rabble for the most part and being any kind of forward is tough. Hopefully the MSD and returning players can give us a boost and we'll see how he goes in a team with better structure and talent. Also was injured for a bit so at least the first couple of games you can't expect a lot.

Adnico26Parker you disagree? I want some development in some capacity and he hasn’t kicked goals of found the football, what’s the issue?

From what I have seen in the VFL Bowman has been improving. In recent games he has been showing more physicality and willing to throw his body around.

Early in the season I thought he looked a good kick, moved well and was quick. But looked hesitant at the contest.

That's why im not judging any new boys in the 2nds

I wonder what body type they plan to build him up to. Will they bulk his arms up or keep him as a wirely type like Hayward
His speed and X factor were his strengths apparently, so I doubt we plan to curb them by bulking him up too much.

I thought we could do with a more powerful medium-target type, but plenty of time for him to show what he can do in other ways and we do have some potential options via the academy that could be that anyway.

Yep spot on, why draft him when we have similar coming through the academy?

I don't think we see them as similar, which is why I don't think we'll try to bulk him up a lot and turn him into a more powerful marking target.

I've only read a few things, but King and Chamberlain are playing a bit up forward while mid/wing types, and are taller, so I think they'll be mobile 3rd-tall target options that can probably put on a bit of size (though not so much if we want one of them on the wing) and mean we intended/keep Bowman as the label suggested - quick and with X factor.

But your question might have been rhetorical anyway.

Not that I have anything against Ned but I think I would have preferred to take up Norths 2026 first round offer.
Ned - taken at 26 in 2025 vs pick 3 in 2026. Considering the academy kids we need to find points for next year, pick 3 would have bought us enough points for probably two of them alone.

Agree. I think we see Bowman more like one of the Brisbane quick types, able to take a mark as well.

It's hard to say because they weren't offering a straight swap and we don't know exactly what more we would have had to give. Would we have had to give them the pick we used to take Bice. However I agree that I would have been attracted by North's 2025 first rounder.

As for Ned, I have so far been a bit underwhelmed. What I liked about his game yesterday was that he was throwing himself in it defensively, and that has been a good trend in his play. He's had a couple of highlights and a lot of quiet - but that's how it's difficult playing a half forward role and relying on others to send the ball your way.

First of all, I got my years wrong. It was the 2024 draft that we took Bowman and it was North's first pick in 2025 that they offered us for pick 25 last year which we used to take Bowman. As we declined, they offered the same deal to Richmond for pick 27 which they gleefully accepted. It was a straight swap. Our pick 26 now for their first pick the following year.

With North likely to finish in the bottom 3, I think it was a bad call.
I listened to a podcast some time ago from Cal Twomey who disclosed all the offers that were put forward by clubs during the first two rounds and he was clear that north desperately wanted to get back into last year's first round and made the same offer to not only us and Richmond but a few clubs prior to our pick as well.
