Delisted #24: Jordan Houlahan

Not yet, arguably the biggest facet holding him back
I wouldn't say arguably.

If he puts this sort of standard up the next 6-7 games I'd have little hesitation giving him a one year extension.

Got involved in a nice bit of niggle and scrapping yesterday. Not sure what it was over, but he had the last laugh.

Only just seen this.

Consistency and influence in games is what is holding him back. As a (majority) forward of centre player, you can hide the fact you lack an engine but someone who doesn't influence games enough, this is Jordan to a tee.

The more I think about it, he is a typical Collingwood (stylistically) player. A fleet footed, powerful, small/medium sized forward who can turn a game on it's head with a 5 minute burst. We just don't see it enough (yet).

as I've mentioned before, if he can stick more tackles he will be a very handy hybrid forward.

Am an unabashed fan now. Was very sceptical like a lot of people and questioning the selection at the time after the first month of VFL football 9in 2018) but the last quarter of 2018 and his start to the season has really shown me (and hopefully others) what he could be capable of. Can't quite think of an apt comparison (stylistically) to Jordan but he certainly has transferable AFL traits.

Another 3 goals (7 from his 3 games in 2018) is a good start. Obviously has a long way to go to be a regular contributor at the next level but his trajectory from inconsequential flaky fp to contributing hybrid forward is a good start.

From all reports at Sturt he was seen as a kid with serious talent but his ego pretty much matched the talent.

If he's prepared to knuckle down and leave the ego at the door there could be a future.

From these reports I'm happy to let him continue to build in the 2's.

We're way too impatient with kids these days. Look at Gary O'Donnell, look at Roger Merrett, look at the 92 VFL premiership team. Kids take time, some more than others.

From recent reports plus what he showed as a junior, I hope we show some faith. Seems like a serious point of difference if he can pull it all together.

If this guy can add regular defensive pressure to his kit bag then he could be a great eventual replacement for Baguley.

Has decent goal sense and a knack for the spectacular. Houlahan has far more tricks offensively than Bags but obviously the required defensive side of his game is still improving

Laverde is too often injured, Begley will probably end up a mid and Mozzie is 2-3 years away.

He still looks like Kyle Hardingham as a forward to me.

He looks like Breust, and the way he just seems to cruise around is a bit similar.

I’ve always thought he had a fair bit about him so I’m pleased to see him actually stringing stuff together. Still struggles to stay involved in games though, but it’ll come

I might throw a curve ball at you a tad.

Michael Walters - esque.. A little less crumbinh ability but that fleet footed, small/mid sized forward
Yeah, not really. I hate those comparisons.

I see Kieran Sporn. Anyone know if he had any unauthorised offspring? Then JH could be the spurned spawn of Sporn...
No, but I'm willing to bet that this is the first mention of Kieran Sporn on this website for at least 5 years

Here's another (thanks for letting us use your thread Houla -- now to be known as 'Sporny'

"I remember Sporn hitting Banksy, and he got two weeks for that, and I hit Sporn and got three weeks. Then Terry got a few more weeks for hitting me."
Brown was reported for "knocking Sporn to the ground with a round-arm action".
Daniher's explanation was typically succinct.
"Obviously Gav jumped into the back of Sporny, clocking him, and I clocked him (Brown). That was basically it," Daniher said.

Houlahan has been really solid this year in the VFL - and given our lack of forward options with Brown, Smack, Stewart & Laverde all injured/out of form we could do worse than give this bloke a go at senior level
