Didn't realise we just lost our best player.
I'm not saying we did, I'm just frustrated cos I feel like Levi was a scapegoat for a couple of years, he finally gets a decent crack at it and shows what he can do, which was pretty bloody serviceable and we can't retain him whilst resigning underachieving plodders and offering 4 year deals to a bloke who is very brittle...

Dumont or Garner to replace Levi. Who knows, they may fit in perfectly.
Just give them a chance. You will never know what they have to offer if you don't give them a chance.:). Lesson learned :D

Do you think some of the reason that we couldn't retain him may have been... you know... levi's doing?

Just out of interest, if we get lowballed by Collingwood and don't get a trade done in time. What would the chances of Levi turning around and going "OK I'll stay" instead of going into the PSD.
I don't think so.

I am not expecting Collingwood to make an offer that would make us want to flush Greenwood down the toilet, I just severely doubt they will be generous. Clubs aren't required to trade to where a player wants to go, player isn't required to accept a trade to somewhere where he doesn't want to go either.

We will obviously look at what they are offering him as a basis for what his value is, at the end of the day a player requests a trade, they rarely demand a trade. We would lose bargaining power if they were on the bottom of the ladder but they are not and there are clubs between them and the bottom who would take him ahead of Collingwood so given those factors I think something will get done.

Not trying to sound like a smart Alec DP, but surely you know there is zero chance of that happening.

A pick in the low 20's is the best pick you'll get from us.
Keefe is an interesting one.
204cm key back with pace and a neat kick and solid mark.
If Roos were interested I think that we would deal on him.
Keefe is interesting, but in the sense that his potential value is hard to read. He looks like he'll make it and then looks terrible, and it's hard to see where he will play best. And he should never ever be allowed to kick in.

I watch the Pies every week and keep a bit of an eye on their reserves team. Unfortunately I don't think they will want to trade anyone with anywhere near the runs on the board that Levi has, even if we don't just look at this outstanding year.

I'd put Levi behind Harvey, Wells, Dal Santo, Cunnington, Thomas, Petrie, Thompson, Hansen, Swallow, Ziebell and Goldstein. Sure, he had a great year, but all these guys are better and more important. So we do lose a best 22 player but is he worth the $450k a year? Not if it means breaking our pay structure.

Tough. He's gone. We move on.

I expect that come the next 24 months Atley, McDonald, Macmillan, Dumont, Black and a few others will likely go past Levi anyway. He obviously though that too given his ongoing concern about his place in the side.

If by arguably you mean because it suits me to say that on BF because I'm shattered a player I rated highly is leaving for nothing more than more money, then you could be right.
Given he averaged the most votes in our B&F I think it's a pretty accurate statement.

Yes it is sad to see Levi go but this can be the best for Levi and the NMFC .We all loved the way he went about it but we have mids to cover him.If we can get a good pick in the early 20s it's a win for the club and Levi gets to play every week for good coin. It's not like we can play all our mids all at once.I fill for him he just wants to play footy and at NM it wasn't a guarantee, yes he had a great year but if his form drops a little he will be back at werribee so I wish him all the best and thank him for this year will miss you in the blue and white

But hey, carry on with your coping mechanisms and pretend it's not a big deal.
But hey, carry on pant shitting and microwave your membership because Levi and Pickering come to the club and say "a shit tonne of money is not quite a large enough shit tonne of money and Collingwood's got an even bigger shit tonne of money and we're off the the Westpac Centre, kthxbai".

He was one of our best this year and with inside mids they often take a long time to mature, Hawks gave Kennedy the arse, Watson was woeful when he was young, it is the one midfield position where you can go from chump to champ pretty quickly once you mature. Collingwood is rolling the dice, hoping they are getting in early just as he is ready to go, hopefully he doesn't purchase $450k worth of horse tranquilizers with his side kicks. :p

However, we still had a problem at the club, we had a midfield imbalance and played with too many inside mids, I wouldn't want to see Dumont replace Greenwood right away, I think McDonald will step up and move into the middle permanently. I am glad Gavin Brown is focusing on Dumont's outside game so he has a stronger overall game.

I'd like us to look at big more zip, we have too many one-paced midfielders which hurts us in transition.

Let's not pretend the Collingwood offer smashed ours out of the park. We lost him because of the way it was handled.

He had a stretch of games in 2013 where he was outstanding.
Brown and Reid both got injuries, surprise surprise, and he held the backline together.

He is a late maturer and not a natural footballer, but a terrific athlete.
He will be competing with Frost, Reid, Brown and perhaps Darcy Moore next year for a spot.

Keefe can definitely play. Not a spud!

His kicking is solid at worst too.

I thought he gets an extra $700-800k over all? And if correct please don't tell me thanks not a significant amount.

Bloody Lance Franklin has made money worthless.
Thats when you compare the 4 yr deal to our 3 year deal if he hadn't activated the trigger for the 4th year.

If you compare it as 4 and 4 its a little closer than 700k but still a significant amount.

It's a lot of dosh that is being thrown at him.

Completely theoretical as actual numbers haven't been confirmed, but 350k a year with us for 4 yrs is 1.4m over 4.

Offered 1.8m at the pies, thats an extra years worth of pay he's being offered over the term.

I think Pickers let the cat out of the bag that he was worried he would slip out of the best side due to the midfield depth, which is why he was worried about a short contract on not great money, means he would need to maintain this level of performance to get a better deal in 2 years time.

The guaranteed money on a long contract in a side with a shithouse midfield was what appealed to him, he knocked back more money from the Dogs for the weaker midfield. Given his lack of consistency, that isn't a great sign and might be for the best if he found it too hard to push himself to be elite enough to beat superstars like Jacobs, Adams, Bastinac and Gibson for a midfield spot.

I'm fat and old and I am confident I could beat Jacobs in a one-on-one with his turnstile tackling, that isn't the mindset you want to see from someone who is asking for $450k a year.
