Even though I rate him so highly, but now that we have higgins, should we be the ones playing hardball with levi? I mean shit, it's not like we don't have dumont, jacobs, bastinac, cunnington, ziebell, swallow, harvey, dalsanto and wells

It would be absolutely ridiculous if we purportedly offered Higgins what we did, and let Levi walk.

One is a luxury player, and the other is the type of player every kind of club needs, and leads by example.

Not hard to figure out who's who.

I'd be more than happy to move Greenwood on if the price is right. We have that position covered. The argument about us demanding 11 but not paying to his demands rests more to the point in that, we have his position covered. We need to bring in midfield class, the workmanlike attributes he offers can be made up by Cunners, Swallow and Ziebell, possibly Dumont. Basti is still around and may bounce back (gasps). But look at our list and who we've drafted

Luke, Dumont, Turner
Garner, Wood
Bmac, Curran
Harper not coming on hurts.

Look at the age of Wells, Dal, Boomer, and the skills of Gibbo.

The list NEEDS top end midfield youth coming in with pace and skill. If we have to shuffle the chairs to get it, then so be it. It has to be done though imo.

On the off chance we scored 11, we go to the draft with 11 and 16, bring in Waite and Higgins and I would be stoked as list management is now at the point where we could target the best fit at those picks.

However, if the price isn't right trade wise, then all of the above is null and void.
Like everyone else my preference is Greenwood stays, he's one of our own, he's an animal and contributes now while we make the push for a flag.

That said i agree with your post, we do have that spot covered, Swallow will be 100% next year as well. If we happen to get pick 11 (maybe it costs Greenwood and our 3rd), then we so many options.

We can shop around for an established classy mid with pace, 1st + 2nd pick

and get O'Rouke with the other first rounder

or just take them both to the draft.

I haven't posted in a long while, but I am without a doubt, always reading.

Levi leaving or not;
Personally I believe he won't go.

He has too much to lose if he leaves. The chance of a possible premiership.
If he left, he wouldn't get to the other top 4 candidates.

It has to be specifically financial. North will look after him.

Losing Levi would be terrible, the guy is an absolute jet, and makes us a better team. The positives I can take from the whole situation is that if he was to leave, 1 - we would get good compensation, far better then if he left last year, and 2 - it's not like we don't have an abundance of inside midfielders, Swallow will be back to his best next year, Cunnington and Ziebell will both take the next step.

I don't want to lose him and I really hope we don't but I don't think it would be the end of the world.

I have not enjoyed reading people saying we'd be fine because Jacobs/Dumont would just step up.

The standard Levi played at is bloody tough to get to.

Also disagree about him not being vital. We've got a good midfield but not many great, complete athletes. No one comes close to his strength/speed/endurance combination.

levi leaving would be a HUGE mistake, runs hard, awesome defensively, can get into scoring position, can tag, awesome clearance player.. still cant believe we offered higgins 3 years @ 400k with an option for a 4th year, whilst trying to low ball levi.

If we lose Greenwood because we offered Higgins $400K per annum then my family membership will not be renewed.
How will you prove the offer to Higgins is what stopped us signing Greenwood?

Guys, get a grip. There is no way it will be as simple as Greenwood out, Higgins in.

Regardless. If they had put energy into signing Greenwood up a month ago with a decent offer we would not have 2-3 other clubs now pushing up his price and making it even harder for us now.

Do you know how much energy they put into it? Maybe the reason they chased Higgins is because they realised Greenwood had made up his mind to leave?

Maybe the offer we made already was reasonable but Greenwood is the one being difficult?

Could not agree with your two most recent posts more. So often since I've been on BF i've seen members of this board thinking they know far better than the people who actually get paid to make these decisions and have a first hand perspective on what is actually happening. Too often on matters such as selection, why player x is playing poorly, list management and other such discussions posters believe that they know best when in reality they have very little clue about the inside machinations of the North Melbourne Football Club.

EDIT: This isn't a remark to Smoocher in particular, just a general observance I've made.

Ben Jacobs, McKenzie just to name a few in the last 2 years. Yeh, those working at the club always know better. When you have a gun like Greenwood you don't let him walk. We get pick 10 or 15 or 25 for him and we pick up a player who then has a 50% chance of being decent in 2-3 years. Yeh Nah good business move that one.
