Ben Jacobs, McKenzie just to name a few in the last 2 years. Yeh, those working at the club always know better. When you have a gun like Greenwood you don't let him walk. We get pick 10 or 15 or 25 for him and we pick up a player who then has a 50% chance of being decent in 2-3 years. Yeh Nah good business move that one.
I would suggest that, yeah, they do. They see these players every day, watch them play every game, bet it AFL or VFL and fully understand the roles that they are being asked to play becasue they are the ones that tasked the player with it. The point is, how do you, or anyone here for that matter, know that they're "just letting him walk?" I think it's unlikely the list managers and CEO have just suddenly thought a couple of days ago that "wow one of our best players this year is out of contract but we should let other clubs talk to him first."

As good as Greenwood's year has been, it's only been one good year. People are talking as if he's Gary Ablett. If there's more than one club after him we should get a good deal. That said, would rather he stayed.
So based on your thinking it is OK to let players go after they finally have a break out year. Carey could have been traded in 1993, Boomer in 1998, Cunnington qualifies to be let go as well this year after having a breakout year. We finally have Greenwood playing football which puts him in the best 5 players at the club and BY JINGOS we'll let him go because maybe it was a once off.

If reports of $270K being offered are right then that is nowhere near being reasonable. He should have had a straight up $1mil over 3 years to start with.
He's played 1 good year, based on that year id say a worth of around $350k.
$270-$300k with incentives to earn up to $350k for backing it up seems fair.

Maybe the club felt he didnt work hard enough in previous years and worried he'll slip back with a nice long non incentive based contract? Pulled his finger out in the last year perhaps?

Im happy to back the club on this one. Id like him to stay, take an incentive based contract for a few years, prove its not a one hit season and we'll roll out another 2-3 years.

You don't know what any of them are getting paid though, do you? And you certainly don't know that the money going to Higgins is what is stopping us signing Greenwood. After all, you said:
If we lose Greenwood because we offered Higgins $400K per annum then my family membership will not be renewed.
Maybe each of Cunnington, Goldstein, Wells, Harvey and Ziebell are on $10k a year too much. Maybe that money is the sticking point and not the Higgins' contract which could be for a very normal amount.

McKenzie and Jacobs are on their second career contracts. But yes, those "bad" decisions are evidence the club is stuffing it up with Greenwood, and those two are probably on $500+ a year.

For every player like Carey and Harvey, there's players who have breakout years and don't go on with it. * cough* Aaron Black *cough*

Just saying Greenwood doesn't have points in the bank just yet. Would you put him in the top 50 players in the comp?

baffling decisiong by management if we let him walk TBH. club thinks we're in the premiership window... tops up and goes for inconsistent and injury prone Higgins and Waite, whilst letting a player who had a breakthrough and extremely consistent year walk (maybe).

yes im in meltdown/ kneejerk mode atm :cry::cry::(:(:(:(:(:mad::mad:

We don't let him go, he chooses to leave, two different things.

If he has been on good coin for the last three years then if the offer is close enough to what he is looking for then he shouldn't have too much to complain about. But if he wants to make hay while the sun shines and get a pay day at another club, then good luck to him. Enjoyed his footy this year, but believe him leaving wont be the sky is falling moment everyone is predicting.

Could be way off but this would be my best guess on the dialogue between Levi and the club atm....

Pickering: "We don't feel the current deal is adequate, Levi loves the club and wants to stay however we feel after a strong year that a new contract reflective of his finish in the B&F would be more appropriate, and such would feel best to finalise until after the function.

Club: No worries

Okay mate, do you mind asking Scotty for me and getting back to me?

What do YOU think is a good deal?
Firstly I don't think it nice to call a girl "mate".

Secondly the only "good deal" that I would take would be if Greenwood was swapped for Jen Hawkins and a can of Chocolate Quik. :stern look

Levi Greenwood thanked people at the club but said nothing about his future. Still un-signed.
What is he going to say? Oh hey guys I'm staying on and steal Cunners Moment? that would be pretty poor of Levi, its not his place to tell everyone his staying or going at a b&f count after they have just announced the winner. It's just plain selfish.
