You don't actually know Higgins is on $400k. You don't know that Greenwood hasn't already been offered the same but knocked it back.

H2H's point is at the successful clubs player accept under all the time. Our players are going to have to accept unders too if they want to stay together and be successful. If Greenwood would rather take the money then we can't really compete with that.
It's hard to accept unders when free agents are walking through the door being paid overs. What did Higgins come in the dogs B&F? Doubt it was a vote behind the winner

It's a fine balancing act of what he is worth and for how long.

Pay him perceived overs on the back of a good year and when contract negotiations start with our better players when the time comes and they could easily be putting out their hand's for more money and all your planning and budget goes to shite

Back in the day Chris Grant stayed on the basis of a little kid with a sad puppy dog face offering the final 20 cents in his piggy bank on the front page of the daily tabloid.

So I am guessing this now translates to a little kid doing a sad facey selfie in front of their online banking screen, tweeting about it & uploading it on facebook.

By the way, no idea what Dish is on but we have no "can we afford Waite" angst. We are only talking about Levi and Higgins because Levi and Pickering have held out this long. Now they have a top 3 B&F finish and other suitors, they are in the strong bargaining position they would have hoped for. But in the end a) choosing North will be choosing success and solidarity over more money and/or contract length, as it always would and b) North still holds good cards as HE IS NOT A FREE AGENT.
Correct, not sure why people think the sky is falling.

Also, Levi leaving would be because

1. Club has lowballed him (not taking stock in 270k reports) - Highly unlikely given comments from the club

Or

2. Levi has a strong desire to leave on the basis of a much larger contract elsewhere - Even more unlikely

I find it very unlikely that the club would be responsible for pushing out a well liked and established player for two FA on the back of his best season to date.

Added to the fact we got Waite on coin that didn't see Carlton receive compensation and Higgins contract appears to be not 4 but 3 with option for 4th, don't think cap space at the moment is an issue.

I think Levi with Pickering are letting the dust settle before getting the best possible deal. Which I have no issue with and Levi is fully entitled to do.

Call me overly optimistic, pretty confident he is staying.

Not wanting to be rude, but can you read? The part you bolded said I couldn't think of a player who left for the big money without first winning a flag. Both Buddy and Ablett won flags with their first clubs before they took the crazy offers to move.

Who was the last North player to leave for more money? Brad Moran? Just doesn't seem to happen here. Think of the kind of deals Swallow, Wells, and Boomer have knocked back.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in his meetings with Pickering.

It's well known that some of our young players have been on very good deals to reach the minimum payments in recent times. Supposedly Greenwood was one of them, and we didn't get much out of him till this year. Should that be a factor in current negotations?

Very mixed feelings on this.

Don't even want to start thinking or talking about what kind of on field quality we'd be losing until he's actually gone.

Signing Waite and Higgins only to lose Greenwood would be a case of one step forward two steps back as 7 years of production with Greenwood to me is better than two of Waite's and five of Higgins. Also his departure would set a precident that would make it easier for other NM players to leave.

Who replaces Levi hypothetically? Dumont- won't match his 25+ possession output next year = shorterm downgrade. Higgins- definite contested possession drop. Draftee- more raw than Dumont plus more unknowns.

I am surprised I'm in the minority when I say I'm concerned about his potential departure. Not sure why people assume we would be a lock to receive a first round pick as compo or that the Pies/dogs will make a fair offer...

Please may this be true - get a bit worried when Mr Shut up and buy a membership starts to speak in Orwellian double talk

You would imagine given that he's had one great year and apparently been on good-ish coin for a few years that there are really only two options from the club's point of view:

- 3 or 4 years on more conservative coin (say 300k-ish)
- 1 year with options on quite a bit more
dunno if i agree with that, supergav and harps have been on good wickets in the past but it says nothing of the future.

For starters Daniel Wells and Jack Ziebell will hopefully be spending more time in the side/midfield. Obviously we would miss him but we'll see what happens.

True however I'm not sure as a player if you should be basing your expected income on money that was thrown around at a rebuilding team during 3 of the most compromised drafts ever.

Don't know if I am doing the maths properly, but doesn't Swallow become a veteran next year (drafted 2005, meaning 2014 was his 10th completed season at one club). This should also free up some cap space with the Veterans' allowance.

Edit: or does drafted in 2005 mean that 2006 was his first year?

Yeah that would be handy but I would not rely on Wells to spend more time in the midfield given his age. Improvement from Cunnington and Ziebel will help but midfield depth was a major strength this year that allowed us to have a successful year.

Levi definitely wants to stay. He definitely doesn't want to go to another club. He and Pickers have come to an agreement with the club on all aspects of his new contract bar one issue which he's confident will be sorted this weekend.

Take that to the bank as fact! Source shall remain nameless but I can say I feel 100% better about this than I did last night. He wasn't avoiding the subject last night because deep down he knows he's going, but because he's sticking (rightfully) to his guns on one matter and until it's sorted he's been advised to remain coy.
