You silly campaigner![]()
That clip of him in the training video with his run & carry with the side step looked awesome.
Very excited to have him and with our bigger mids feeding him rather than at Oakleigh having to win it himself, he's going to be a real weapon.

Think he’s the type of player that would look sick in a high number#3 for Grlj or if he wants #1 in 2/3 years
Someone watched the Rhy interviews. You'd think that worst case he ends up a speedy, line breaking half back type, which have never been more valuable.
Did you tell him to and then ask for a brief?Someone watched the Rhy interviews.

I was thinking today about the acquisition of the pick we got from North to recruit this guy. It turned out to be pick 8, a prized top 10 pick. Normally to get a genuine top 10 pick in a trade you have to give up something of substantial value. Like in the case of the Cats in the Bowes trade, a load of cap space. Or you need some luck trading in future picks, like GWS getting pick 8 off us for Hopper or GWS getting pick 3 from Collingwood in the 2021 draft. So in short, you need to be GWS for this to happen.
It is well known Richmond traded pick 27(2024) and its 2025 rd 2 pick to North to obtain this pick 8 for Grlj, and most people seem to think Richmond got the better end of that deal.
But looked at through a broader lens, you could express this differently to understand how Richmond came to be able to acquire this pick without giving up anything more than leftovers.
How Richmond got pick 27 in the 2024 draft....this was given by Gold Coast along with pick 7(Smillie) in the Dan Rioli trade. This was mainly thrown in as a swap for Richmond giving a range of later picks, 51, 61, 70 & 76. Richmond ended up using just one pick in this range in the draft. The pick 58 that Suns traded back to Richmond for an F4, to get Alger.
So it is a bit complicated, but it is probably fair to say Richmond got pick 27 without giving up any picks they needed to use. Even the f4(2025) was replaced by Suns providing Richmond with pick 52 to pick up Roberts-Thompson, in return for an f5 pick, which would never have been used.
So that pick 27 that came as part of the Dan Rioli deal was essentially a gift from the Suns, who have ensured at every turn we were equipped with picks required to take players we liked later in the 2024 & 2025 drafts, without it costing us anything of any value in return.
Blair has essentially conjured this pick 27 from food scraps that were going to be binned.
Then our rd 2 pick(2025) which ended up being pick 28 was the other component to this deal. Richmond essentially replaced that pick with pick 31 received in the Tyler Young trade, and with which the Tigers drafted Peucker.
So Blair has somehow conjured pick 8 out of Tylar Young and a 3 pick rd 2 downgrade from 28 to 31. And nothing else the club could or would have needed or used.
Or looked at another way, for giving up Young, a 3 pick rd 2 downgrade and just a small part of the steak knives that themselves formed a small part of the Rioli deal, Richmond got pick 8.
Overall, by giving up 28yo Rioli + 27yo Young + a 3 pick rd 2 downgrade from 28 to 31 and nothing else of any value to Richmond, got Richmond picks 7(2024) and pick 8(2025.) Smillie and Grlj(picks 6 & 4 respectively of players available in the open draft.).
Further, the total haul for Richmond from all associated deals is Smillie, Alger, Grlj, Peucker and Roberts-Thompson. It will be interesting to see how all these young chaps get on.![]()
Her we go again just making stuff up again ... Pick 8 has nothing to do with Young ... It was acquired in in 2024, Young was traded in 2025 for a second round pick ... neither pick was on traded ... they were directly used to pick Grjl and Peucker.... neither pick has anything to do with each other in anywaySo Blair has somehow conjured pick 8 out of Tylar Young and a 3 pick rd 2 downgrade from 28 to 31. I left out the bit about how the club acquired picks 51, 61 etc. If you are really good and ask nicely I will make another post about that, entitled "The Acquisition of Pick 8 2025 - The Prequel."
It seems no matter how much you give some people, they just want more.![]()
