Makes Macrae look very quick on the field too because he preempts play.Sounds like McRae from dogs - not overly athletic but reads it so well.

Great to see some content on this kid!
Mght need 18months in the gym to get AFL by the look of him but I’ve read he can play with men,
Is there some talk about his kicking not being the best?

Everything points to his “decision making” being elite.
Unsure of his actual kicking execution, but I would expect some clangers with the amount of disposals he gets.
He looks a bit wonky.

Yeah, I'd be interested on hearing that Souup cos in that photo it looks like the top half of his body is out of sync with the bottom half.Isnt one of his other big ticks the fact he hits the stoppage at full pace? A couple recruiters have pointed that out. The odd rushed kick is inevitable if you’re bursting from congestion.
Souup would probably have one of the better views on his kicking technique from this board, so I’ll leave it to him.

Really glad we picked up the best young midfielder in south australia for 2020.Powell’s kicking has been the one area that has only been ok, but he managed to hit a fantastic pass inside 50 in the last quarter and if he can do that more often, he could become an even bigger threat.
Powell’s kicking and ability on the outside would be the main focus area for him as his inside game is just about flawless and with the amount of footy he wins he could really turn that into a more damaging package, like Lachie Neale. Powell finished the game with 35 disposals (21 handballs), seven clearances and five tackles backing up a his 34 disposals last week
While he put together a very strong game, it could have been even better had he converted some of his attempts on goal.
Mr Consistent, Mr Prolific, you could also call him the best young midfielder in South Australia at the moment as he again had a huge game as he continues to catch the eye of scouts. Powell again was a ball magnet both at stoppages and on the outside where he found the ball with ease and again used it cleanly and sharply – especially by hand.
It was like déjà vu watching Powell, who had another incredible game through the midfield. He really is just a machine at stoppages, winning the ball at will. Powell’s style isn’t fancy – you wont see him bursting out of stoppages – but what you will see is an extremely efficient midfielder who is clean at gathering the ball and even cleaner with his delivery by hand, whether that’s on his left or right which not many players have.

AFL Draft Watch: Tom Powell (Sturt/South Australia)
IN the build up to football eventually returning, Draft Central takes a look at some of this year’s brightest names who have already represented their state in some capacity leading into 2020. While plenty can change between now and then, we will provide a bit of an insight into players, how...afl.draftcentral.com.au
Big bodied?TOM POWELL (NM) $153,300 MID
The phrase “ball magnet” gets thrown around a lot at draft time, but if ever there was a player who has earned it, it’s Powell. Likened to a young Tom Mitchell, the big-bodied midfielder averaged 33.5 disposals over two seasons in the SANFL under-18 comp and topped 200 KFC SuperCoach points twice, including an epic 47-disposal return against West Adelaide. Should thrive on silver service from Todd Goldstein.
Its a good thing we have some good kicking coaches and some hard working young leaders then.Powell’s kicking has been the one area that has only been ok, but he managed to hit a fantastic pass inside 50 in the last quarter and if he can do that more often, he could become an even bigger threat.

We've been buried by mass of possession for too long.
Hurt factor is important but you don't get many burgers with the lot. Powell's sheer weight of numbers is compelling, when a kid pulls those figures with an immature physique you have to take notice.
I think outright natural ball-winning ability should be seen as an x-factor as much as power-explosiveness, pace and height-athleticisms combinations. These are usually inborn traits for players that aren't easily developed in others.
As in - not many players get drafted then later develop previously unseen abilities in these areas.
Powell can just handball it over to Spicer on the wing. Goal. Its a good thing we have some good kicking coaches and some hard working young leaders then.
Or LDU, TT, and probably 7 other players. I think kicking is something that is (relatively) easy to improve (to a degree) with practice and the correct technique anyway, its just after hearing comments on his kicking and seeing that photo the comments make sense.Powell can just handball it over to Spicer on the wing. Goal.

Especially compared to some of the photos we see with guys kicking with beautiful form.
His best asset is his footy brain - he knows where to be at the right time, uses his body really well and makes the right decision by hand and foot. This means that the knock for me around his kicking is more his execution over a medium-long to long range distance rather than the decision-making aspect which is a massive plus. .
