AFL Player #25: Jake Stringer - Dead-eye

You’d think they’d take him to be around the boys, plus rehab with our physios looking over him. He can’t rehab with people outside the essendon staff in Melbourne anyway. Plus the weather isn’t too bad up there.
He's also apparently our only player with kids, so there's that consideration, and we don't know what the rehab facilities are going to be like at these resorts, nor things like access to specialists, surgery, etc. who are outside the club staff by default.

If it's just a month long holiday with nothing else to worry about, why the hell not. But it's more than that.

Yeah it’s definitely a consideration, but it’s only an ankle. I’m sure Heppell is a big chance of going and Stringer will be back before him.

Our medical team is going. Unless the AFL let's us bring in an outsider he'll probably have to go with them.
Does that mean we're also taking Lachie Johnson and the others? I would think anyone who is available would have to go up because you can't play a scratch match by yourself and you're no use to anyone in Melbourne, so I'd think like the Irish guys and first years and what have you would go, even if they're like a 2% chance of playing seniors this year.

When Woosha was asked in the post-match presser last night about whether Joe would be go into the hub though he said that we wouldn't necessarily take everyone and it was something that would be weighed up. It seemed to be a question of whether or not Joe would be available for the games scheduled during the 32 day block.

Unless we can find someone to adequately manage their rehab I'd imagine so.

Maybe we leave a couple medical staff here and find replacements up North.

Here's the quote from Worsfold, more details from the club soon apparently.
"We have had some bad news around his ankle injury. It looks like he's going to miss a number of weeks which is really disappointing for Jake and for us obviously," Worsfold told Fox Footy.

"It's a syndesmosis injury. I've only had the basic outline of it, the club will probably release some information around that shortly. He's going to be unavailable for a number of weeks.

"Generally they are at least a four-week injury. We've seen players get back in that time if they have had surgery, but we don't know what the outcome at the moment is. He'll need to see surgeon to discuss whether that's the option we will go down.

"They can be up to three-month injury, we don't know where his sits at the moment."

Hopefully it turns out to be just the one month. Great opportunity for the likes of Laverde, Townsend and Fantasia.

There's the update. 6-8 weeks. Rehab in Melbourne, no surgery.
The Bombers can confirm forward Jake Stringer sustained a syndesmosis injury during Friday night’s win over Collingwood at the MCG.

Scans today revealed the nature of the injury, with the 26-year-old likely to be sidelined for at least the next six to eight weeks.

“It’s disappointing for both Jake and the club. He had a terrific game on Friday evening and underwent scans earlier today which confirmed the nature of his ankle injury,” general manager of football Dan Richardson said.

“The club will fully support Jake in his recovery and he will complete his rehabilitation program in Melbourne over the coming weeks.”

Sucks for Jake. Patchy forwardline about to look like Frankenstein's monster.
Langford forward could now be a real thing. Dare I say, we could play Bellchambers out of the square?

Hooker forward could still be on the table as well.
No. We cannot play Bellchambers out of the square.
