2/3 of the boys were going to make it, couldn’t see all 3 making the side. That last spot on the bench I feel was either Darcy or Jake and they rewarded darc as he’s done it all year. Jake was probably a couple of good games short due to a slow start and injury.

Bad luck Jakey.

Shoulda been the 10th best midfielder in the comp, maybe then you would be a chance for the team.

Because being the No.1 ranked player overall since round 14 by playing on a flank obviously isnt worth **** to the AA selectors
Season starts round 1 though. He’s stiff but really either he makes in and Parish is stiff. I think Darcy deserved it more, he carried us in the middle for most of the year. The all aus committee meet 3-4 times a year, Jakes named wouldn’t have been mentioned until after the hawthorn game.

Rubbish.

So what? he misses the first two games and therefore he is effectively ineligible?
What a wonderfully meritocritous award.

Toby Greene played one less game and got in the team.
The fact is he was the best player in the competition for just shy of 40% of the season using the AFL's own freaking metric.

but nah, averaging a lot of disposals, even in a s**t team in the case of Steele or Miller, is clearly more deserving of All australian selection than a guy who rates as the most effective player in the competition and single handedly winning his finals bound team 2-3 games over the course of the year.

And if that is true about how often they meet and such, then it shows just how much of a s**t show the award is.
If a guy can have the 8 week form Stringer did for R14-22 and not make it cause he didnt do it for the first 8 games or missed the first 2 games of the year, they might as well give it away.
Or at least the selectors should try and watch more games instead of just looking at the disposal column on the AFL website.

Bad luck Jakey. Reality is only one of him and Greene could have made it.
You reckon Papley is the best performed small forward so deserves his spot yet scores less goals per game than Jake who spends his down time shredding gun midfield combos. If ever a midfielder deserved a token forward slot it was Jake this year. Papley was not a dominant forward by any stretch but Jake was THE dominant player in the comp for the last half of the season.

Papley had more goals and goal assists combined than any other small or medium forward and only Hawkins, McKay and Riewoldt had more in the league.

Stringer was unlucky but stop looking at averages for forwards. If you're doing that then you'd have to agree that Buddy should be ahead of Hawkins, yeah? Despite Hawkins leading goals and assists combined for the second season running?

We weren’t getting Parish stringer and merrett in the side, period. Same way weitering didn’t make it because walsh and mckay we’re making it. Parish deserved a spot over Jake. Same way Sydney didn’t have a player in the team, so papley got a small forward spot, its the way they do it. And I’m not just talking about the games he missed, his first half of the year was nowhere near as good as his 2nd. The other thing they would take into consideration were most of his great games were against bottom sides, when they are splitting hairs that would be a difference maker.

It's a midfielders' game these days. They win the Brownlow all the time and leak into the AA forward line. Happens every year now. Stringer is a unique player in the way he is used, even compared to Dusty. Doesnt get put in these teams because he is harder to fit into a nice square box to compare players and they dont look at overall importance to their side. Hopefully it spurs him on for Sunday.

No, Jake put together a solid sequence of form that was at the highest level. Buddy’s stuttering season is not in any way a good comparison. Stringer’s goal tally being so close to Papley’s with less games is a very fair comparison and the fact that Stringer plays the forward role in much the same way as Papley negates the bullshit about their size difference or positional differences.

Jake had a great season. He was on the fringe of the side. Papley deserved a spot in the side. The two concepts aren't mutually exclusive.
