There was a reason he was free at the end of last year. He improved in the 2nd half against Port, but I can’t imagine he’s got a long leash with the coaching staff

I think you need to be within 15m of your opponent for the stat to be recorded.

He stops the ball, which means he stops the attack. I'm not sure what your problem is. Leave my improving boy alone.

With Yoda - think he needs to be told when he is in prime position go for the mark. If in these circumstances someone comes over the top and takes a big mark occasionally so be it. Anyhow thought he looked tidy and composed in general and carried on from the second half of the last match.

Leadership in that back 6 and natural cohesion may see him take some reasonable steps forward by the end of the year if the chasing pack at the lower level dont catch him.

He's defintely steadied as the weeks have gone on, showed good signs and composure if he can stay reliable and consistent that is a win. Don't need every player in the backline to be creative and have run.

few people are suggesting Prior as an out but apart from too defensive (double fisting instead of marking) what did he actually do wrong?

I’ve been a big critic and still don’t think he’s AFL standard, but he looked serviceable this week - didn’t get to watch the whole match though. Backed up a solid second half against Port.

I’ll take the double fisted spoils if he can clamp down defensively and go hard at the contest, because those first few weeks were all time bad.

One thing I know about playing defence is that you got to learn each other and know each other. Proper calls and hierarchy is integral to good defence l! You need one man to call the shots and everyone has to follow his direction. If that is not achieved then it usually ends n chaos! There is a fine line between good and bad defence.

Doesn't mean he can't or won't. He took an awesome pack mark at CHF when Dees won the clearance after Menzies' second goal.
He was good at his job of repelling attacks and he's been improving each week.

Didn’t do a heap but stood up in marking contests a couple of times tonight and also nailed some difficult release kicks from inside defensive 50.

Credit where it’s due - he has steadied. Now he needs to show he can compete and put his body on the line every week.

reckon his first quarters have consistently been his worse, after that he builds pretty nicely into the game.
