Next pick is Jess Edwards, VFLW captain for Collingwood this year.

Somewhat recognised as a defensive player, but is versatile in her positional play and gets up the ground. Decent size for a midfielder, and obviously a mature age recruit coming to us at 29 years of age.

Came back from London once the AFLW roared to life and should slot into our 22 next year.

Hopefully Jess can strangle some of the opposition's best players. That is something we really struggled to do in 2018. The other thing is that she will be ready to go. The kids may take a little longer.

Think of her more as an attacking half-back option, and she may in fact play midfield all year.

If she can do the sort of job Carrazzo used to do in the midfield, I'll be happy enough. Last year the best opposition mids killed us every week. To have someone who can make that less likely and still get the pill will be the answer to many of my 2018 frustrations. Having the opposition's players chasing her ... :)
