He might not make it on talent alone against more recent players but I just couldn't have a side without Parker. Always one of my favourite players, gave everything he had for over a decade and much of it in the worst defense in the league. He got beaten on plenty of occasions but the poor bugger was our number one KPD at 187cm... 182 when running.

I have a self confessed blind spot when it comes to Hasleby, I remember saying sometimes at the end of a game that I had barely noticed him, and there he was with 25 possessions and a best on ground. I was overseas from 2002-2005 which I think were his very best years and back then I listened to more games than I was able to watch... or maybe he should have just shaved his head.

The thing about Hasleby was he was never quick and never in shape but he made up for it in football smarts and having some of the fastest hands i've seen at AFL level. It was a real shame he didn't get to play more games but i also think it was mainly his fault. Started the same time as Pav and was retired for 6 years when Pav finally finished up.

Agree, one of my all-time favorites. Always used to use the number 23 for everything too.

Barlow ahead of Fyfe and no room for Hasleby? righto mate.

I did say no specific order - that is not the order of importance.

Also I said I was picking a team (rather than these are the best players over that time period).

Also it is competely subjective, pointless and nonsensical exercise, which is partially what I was trying to demonstrate.

Roger Hayden – Alex Pearce – Dale Kickett
Shane Parker – Luke McPharlin – Paul Duffield
Ben Allen - Aaron Sandilands - Brad Hill
David Mundy - Matthew Pavlich - Shaun McManus
Jeff Farmer - Tony Modra - Michael Walters

C: Peter Bell - Nat Fyfe - Paul Haselby
I/C: Michael Barlow - Lachie Neale - Justin Longmuir - The Carr Brothers

That midfield is probably a little short by today's standards but with Allen, you have some incredible footy smarts. Every single guy reads the play, some beautiful skills in there with Hase and Belly too. Mundy coming up into the middle is a nice bonus too.

Brad Hill gets a gig in front of his brother because I just feel he takes the game on more. Stephen Hill is the more talented, faster, more skilled of the two but he lacks the arrogance of Bradley.

Shaun McManus gets a gig because of his heart, soul, and attack on the bowwwwl. You need charisma and passion out there, and when the rest of the team is so finely skilled and talented, you're allowed one or two blokes for that side of things.

Dale Kickett ahead of Grover. Just for derbies. The Carr Brothers are also a package deal: just for derbies

What I would want to watch, rather than the best team/25;

B: Roger Hayden, Stephen OReilly, Michael Johnson
HB: Dale Kickett, Luke McPharlin, James Clement
C: Shaun McManus, David Mundy, Bradley Hill
HF: Michael Walters, Matthew Pavlich, Jeff Farmer
F: Kepler Bradley, Tony Modra, Clive Waterhouse
R: Aaron Sandilands, Nat Fyfe, Lachie Neale

I/C: Troy Cook, Justin Longmuir, Paul Medhurst, Antoni Grover, Adam McPhee, Scott Chisolm, Winston Abraham

You couldn't squeeze Pav into even VC?

Too easy...

B: Chisholm Thornton S.Dodd
HB: Harding Madigan Bond
C: Prescott G.Mitchell B.Dodd
HF: Abraham Mann (C) Leach
F: Wira Hunter Hargraves
RR: Bandy Norrish Callaghan
I: Delaney T.Longmuir Metropolis Carroll Merillo Toia Fyfe (VC)

Ruffles could have been alright to be fair. Couple of knee injuries didn't help his cause.

But then, over the long years, there's been a lot of players that have made me think, "this guy is going to be the future". Luke Toia, Ben Cunningham, Craig Callaghan, Hargraves (thought it was a bit of a coup at the time getting him from the Bulldogs), Andrew Browne, Stuart Anderson (although at the time I got him confused with Anthony Stevens). So maybe this team is more a team of players who broke my heart...

Adam Campbell, for no real reason I always really wanted him to work out well.

And speaking of;

One of these 2003 draft picks is not like the others,
One of these 2003 draft picks just isn't the same...

Ryley "absolute gun" Dunn? Best pick #10 is the history of AFL. 8 games in 5 years! Beat that Bennell!!!

edit - he got more touches in that picture than he did in most of those 8 games.

Couldn’t squeeze any Lachie’s in

Actually, very much the same about Campbell. Was sure he was going to fire. Good size, good hands. Back in the day he was a prominent feature in my TAR career.

And Murphy, just couldn't make that jump from the WAFL where he kicked bags. Always disappointed he never came through.

I remember being absolutely stoked with the 2003 draft. One of the first times we hadn't given all our picks away for has-beens. Especially after poor choices around 2001. Was dirty with trading for Croad. Knew he in no way wanted to be there.

Never would have guessed that Mundy would be around as long as he has been and playing in the midfield. Thought he was a lazy defender who would get games because. Now I having nothing but implicit trust whenever he has the ball and want him to play forever.

I couldn't find Brad Hill on the app to select him.

Travesty.

D. Kickett, L. McPharlin, S. Parker
D. Mundy, M. Johnson, H. Black
S. Hill, N. Fyfe, B. Hill
M.Walters, M.Pavlich, P.Hasleby

R: A.Sandilands, L.Neale, P.Bell

Int: J.Carr, A.McPhee, C.Waterhouse, A.Fletcher

Emerg: N. Suban, S.McManus, P. Duffield

Tabs always feels like a Campbell that made it to me.

It was actually harder than I thought it would be to pick a team. Some decent players missed out but this is what I had:

B: Grover O'Reilly Kickett
HB: Hayden McPharlin Johnson
C: Neale Bell Barlow
HF: Hill Pav Ballantyne
F: Clive Modra Farmer
RR: Sandi Mundy Fyfe
I: Fletcher Parker Ibbo Crowley Walters Duffield Hase

That's a premiership team right there.

M.Johnson A.Grover S.Chisholm
P.Duffield L.McPharlin R.Hayden
S.Hill P.Bell D.Mundy
M.Walters M.Pavlich C.Waterhouse
J.Longmuir K.Bradley J.Farmer
A.Sandilands N.Fyfe P.Hasleby

R.Crowley H.Ballantyne M.Barlow T.Modra (S.McManus G.Ibbotson D.Kickett)

Hard to fit all in.
