Traded 25. Zac Fisher

From the very little I've seen, Zach has no fear for the contest. He looked to attack the ball regardless of any physical contact.
This is an attribute I love in players.

He will be placed on a program to increase muscle/weight. I look forward to watching him play over the next few years and expect him to play at senior level in 2017.

funny

watching all the SPS videos, I couldn't help but notice some Fisher kid getting him the ball a lot and thinking "maybe we should have drafted that kid too "

then it dawned on me that we did

I was in the park wondering why the Frisbee kept on getting bigger.... And then it hit me.

The two guys who are 6'0 1/2" and 6'1 1/2" with good vertical leaps? Yes, yes I do.

I even remember Eddie, who is shorter than him, but has a lot more pace. I don't know how much he's been around elite programs, but given his frail frame despite a body builder's neck and exposure to senior WAFL training, I'm allowed to be concerned.

When it comes to picking athletic potential, AFL clubs are barely ahead of horse trainers, so it makes sense to err on the side of caution when projecting players through that lens.
The fact he may not have been groomed in a decent standard programm is what makes his potential even that much greater,
With a structured weights programme coupled with a specifically designed nutritional plan and monitored training loads, surely enhances his likelihood to make it at AFL level, especially with his talent,
THINK GLASS HALF FULL, NOT HALF EMPTY.

Ah yes, the Trent Sporn hypothesis.

Look here's how I see him:

Footy brain: A+
Skills: B+
Size: E
Speed: C+
Strength: C+

Sure he can grow taller still, but it's total combination that is worrisome. I just think that Atley offered almost exactly the same attributes in a developed and athletic 6'1" frame.

In terms of performance Atley didn't have the runs on the board like fisher. Fisher was his states best under 18 performer at the champs, Atley was a long way from this.

My understanding was there was significant question marks over Atleys disposal.

Giving a player a mark of E for size seems odd to me. I'm not sure this makes sense. Smaller players on average have advantages over bigger players in particular areas. On average there agility is good and they have very sure ball handling. Shorter leavers can result in better ball control.

With the rule changes there seems to be more broken play instead of just stoppage after stoppage and then a breakaway. In broken play where the ball is up for grabs but there isn't too much congestion they are extremely clean and quick to distribute.

When there are too many numbers around the ball there is an issue for smaller players as they lack size, strength and reach to force there way through and distribute the ball.

I think Tom Mitchell, Caleb Daniel and jade gresham display traits similar to fisher in that they are very good in broken play, being quick to react and get to the ball, clean hands with there pickup and gather, very good decision making and good disposal.

There are pluses and minuses related to size and l think the rule changes and latest game plans are shifting the balance back to where it was in the past with real value on smaller players.

That's exactly why I included speed & strength along with size: to give you an idea of how they perform athletically for their size (IMO).

Yeah this kid is going to take time. Even Cripps who was a beast of a kid wasn't ready for AFL level footy in his first year.
Wouldn't think Zac would play much senior footy at all, may be he could play against teams like Brisbane or GCS later in the year.
Think 2017 will be a development year for Zac, it not like he is an outside runner, the kid would get murdered on the inside, he's is tiny ATM.

Weird haircut he's running too. Softly spoken, small and slight; hope he's got some mongrel in him.
Jackson Browne wants his hair back.

Zac reminds me of Andrew Phillips (the smaller one, not surprisingly) - there's something uncannily similar about them.

Fisher too might perhaps ease himself into senior football via the forward pocket, with some stints on the ball, but fingers crossed he blossoms into the rover Flipper was circa 1991.

I have nothing but positive vibes about Fisher and his prospects, for whatever intangible reason. Looks the goods.
