He was getting absolutely slaughtered on the spread in that first half. No wonder Freo were to keen on switching when they could create such an easy overlap. Played a pretty bad game otherwise.

The biggest contribution he makes to the forward line (other than kicking goals obviously) is letting Harry Jones take the second or third defender, also taking into account Wright and especially when Stringer is injured. Stretches a defence that we otherwise don't really have the ability to stretch.

Would've been good if he'd taken a mark today though. Normally good for a few but got mauled by his opponent.

You wonder whether we should manage him next week given Ambrose is coming off half a dozen and could probably play the battleaxe role just as well as Hooker if heā€™s sore.

Sidenote, I actually thought he presented quite well today and was pretty good when the ball hit the deck in his area

Rest makes sense. If we can get him through the year without doing a soft tissue would be a very good result.

ppl that were saying hooks is cooked should be ashamed of themselves. he was huge when then the game was in the balance.......the first 2 minutes lol.
People saying otherwise have been pretty quiet the last couple weeks. Good to see he kicked a couple against the rabble that is Norf.

I actually really like him around Jonesy...must be really reassuring for him to have that unit there teaching him, protecting him and giving him confidence.

Heā€™s an enigma in that he literally cannot run other than short leads or bursts early in the game yet remains so important for us with his super strong hands, footy smarts and ability to bring the ball to ground involving other players in the game. Oh - and an average of 2 and a half goals a game ainā€™t bad either! Heart and soul of the club

His defense was horrible and if he does not mark it the opposition run it the other way quickly. He has to be kicking 3 to 5 goals a game to cover the other side of it. He was the main offender in the third quarter as far as , well very average efforts in trying to defend go.

Heā€™s been great in the air and competitive in the contest, which is great, but his kicking has been abhorrent and heā€™s useless when the pill hits the deck. I love Hooker but letā€™s not get carried away, as others have said heā€™s been useful for Jones in particular but he is well and truly cooked. If he was playing in the backline heā€™d be horribly exposed hence heā€™s playing forward.

To be completely honest he's getting equally exposed in the forward line. It's not just about kicking goals and bringing the ball to ground - it's about chasing, hard running and applying pressure. All of which he is physically incapable of doing. We look poor when teams expose us on the spread and coming out of our D50.

He almost can't run at all, he hobbles...permanently.
