Player Watch #26 Luke Parker

Luke Parker
Luke Parker has plenty of football ahead and has already compiled a resume packed with impressive achievements. Since landing at the Sydney Swans via the 2010 AFL Draft, he has won a 2012 premiership medal, earned All Australian selection and won two Bob Skilton medals. In 2015, he was added to the club’s leadership group at the age of just 22, and has led the team as a co-captain alongside Josh Kennedy and Dane Rampe since 2019. While Parker is among the league’s elite midfielders, his strong marking and expert game awareness make him a genuine threat when rotating through the forward line.

Tim Watson rated Parker as the first pick if you redo his draft year, that’s a big call, but there is a definite case

The media might not rate Parker as highly but it's always interesting how highly rated he is by fellow footballers or past footballers.
I just think he is the type of bloke they want to have run out along side them because they know what they are going to get from him.
Absolute gun in my eyes & always has been.

The media just ranked him one from his draft.....

Probably should differentiate non player media v ex player media. Both Watson and Lyon ranked him 1, non explayers cal twosomes was one, didn’t.

True

I think he has had some ordinary finals games but no way he isn’t right up there in that draft imo

Congratulations on 200 games, Luke!
A wonderful effort and a Fantastic Achievement...

It's been a pleasure to watch you, and in some small way share your journey. You've brought me hours of happiness, and moments of great joy.

All the very best for your 200th!

I was going to get his number on my Guernsey in 2014. Then my sister told me about how he tried to buy her a drink at a bar.

I got Kieren Jack's instead.

Happy 200th

"Parker is ranked #2 in games over the past six years and four rounds, #3 in tackles, #4 in goals, #5 in contested possessions, #6 in Brownlow votes, #7 in clearances and #9 in contested possessions. He has averaged 25.4 possessions (12.9 contested possessions), 0.85 goals, 5.6 tackles, 5.7 clearances per game. And 0.63 Brownlow votes.
It is an outstanding record for any player in a competition in which the depth of quality midfielders is endless, but it is downright extraordinary for a player drafted at #40 in the 2010 AFL National Draft as Parker was."

Happy to have him as a Swan, any day!
