McGovern is 190cm. Marchbank is 193cm. Haynes is the replacement for Marchy but is more reliable than McGovern defensively IMO.

We still need a genuine 2nd tall to play CHB because it’s clear we don’t rate Young. But as it stands, Haynes is our 2nd best tall defender.

Looks like we might be going into 2025 with Weiters and a host of 3rd tall types again (Haynes, Gov, maybe Kemp). I do think Kemp will remain forward though.

Mitch McGovern is a very flaky defender IMO.
Perhaps Nick Haynes can teach L.Young the nuances of defending (+ MM while he’s at it).
Moo into midfield/wing mix.
Kemp not allowed near defence (except for chop-outs/burst on the wing) - roaming forward bound.

I rated Haynes. Even last year, he was playing decent footy. But this game must rank among the worst from any Carlton player ever. He dropped so many marks, was out-bodied by nobodies, looked slow, fumbles, turned it over ... I can't go on. I would drop him and bring up O'Farrell. He might not be perfect, he is still a baby, but he wouldn't make those errors or cost those goals.

Has actually rebounded ok from the disaster debut.

Better than McGovern
The way he has come back from that opening round disaster says quite a lot about the guy. That first game was maybe the worst I've seen from a Carlton player, but each week he has improved on that. I still don't see him as a long-term option, but I no longer fear that every possession is going to lead to an opposition goal. I think he will see out the year.

Absolute Herculean effort from Haynes today. Threw himself at everything.

20 disposals, 13 marks, 9 intercepts, 2 contested marks, and a goal assist.

Proof of how Voss backs his players when they are down. Haynes clearly struggled with nerves and playing with new team mates the first few rounds, what game he played in Sunday. If he could just fix his kicking a little it would be icing on the cake.
Its also not lost on me that SOS, Haynes and Gov all playing so well has taken pressure of Weiters who is back to his best.
Same with Cerra, George and Walsh taking pressure of Cripps and the small fwds lending a hand to H and Charlie.
