Has been getting a lot of justified criticism but I thought he was critical to us winning tonight. We needed a defensive leader to lift in Ridley’s absence and he was the one who stood up.

I think he is a guy who needs a task to keep his head in the game.

When there is Ridley floating, Martin doing whatever it is he is supposed to be doing and McGrath pretending to be a rebounding defender there doesn't seem to be any motivation for Redman. He seems to just sit deep and take the foot off the gas which is when he starts making mistakes. He is better playing on edge.

It's not an excuse, just a reason. I think I've noticed the same thing with Saad who also seems to be more effective playing off an opponent rather than just floating around with nothing to do (other than downhill ski). Dare I say it, the best McGrath has played was in year 1 when he was stopping first and then rebounding.

Personally I’m glad we don’t have to rely on him anymore. Yeah he can be the leader but also too many times the guy doing the dumb shit to lose the game! I love a red dog goal but imo he is not a leader. To much bad mixed with the good,

Not a shot red dog but I'm really skeptical of how CD measure this. Old mate hoyne was saying something along the lines of "so everyone says half back flanker get the easiest possessions but look how important they are according to this ranking", but is it possible their measurement is flawed in that it ranks outside players higher than inside /contested types? I think that's why merrett gets ranked harder and daicos has dropped since moving to an inside mid role.

I could be made to look foolish because it might rank Martin as the 7th best kick in the game but it doesnt offend my eye test at all.

For kicking length, accuracy and trajectory (he tends to weight the ball with a little loop) I can't think of many better kicks.

Hits a decisive kick 3/4 times, and that what really counts.

Yep, I thought he was good. Played undersized all game but used his legs to get off and create attack for us.

Had the one shocker where he fumbled in the middle but that's all I remember, rest was good.
