For what it's worth, I think WW fit into a long term drafting strategy that year. This draft profile from Zero Hanger talked about his upside and when you put him next to LDU, Kyron Hayden and Xerri, I think we weren't expecting any of them to dominate in year one - maybe LDU.

And there were moments when it looked like we could have had a real player, but it was injuries that got him more than anything else.

Sometimes, despite everyone's best efforts, it just doesn't work out. But to use this as an opportunity to criticize either him or Brad Scott or anyone else just makes you look like a prick.

Pretty sure Will was a Finnigan recommendation and was a fairly solid pick given his superb form leading into that draft.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but he was a good roll of the dice.
Will Walker never played NAB League, and so was never pitted against the best under age players. He had a good game in the 2017 TAC Cup grand final, kicked two for Sandy Dragons in a losing side. He was taken at pick 23.

Gryan Miers kicked 7 (seven) for the winning side, Geelong Falcons - he went at 50 plus. All Australians from that draft year taken after WW included Charlie Constable, Sam Taylor, Harrison Petty and James Worpel

By any measure, WW was a reach at 23

Very weird and probably the only fail in picks 20-30.

Feel our injury management had as much to do with him.

I'm happy to back Finnigan who has a pretty good track record so far.

We have not produced a good footballer since Garry Lyon. Our last great cricketer was Miller, and no not funky, Keith, shouldn’t come as much a surprise that this kid failed.

You recruit from Melbourne High if you’re looking for an Accountant or a Lawyer, or to fill your chess team. What the fu** were we thinking?

He played a bunch of games for Sandy off half forward and was moved into the middle when Brayshaw and Constable went playing for Vic metro. During those games his output was excellent, averaging mid 20's and a goal a game if memory serves, indicating his potential development given his late transition to footy from soccer.

High risk, high reward type but he certainly had runs on the board at TAC level.
