We only wanted a defender. I don't think Gibcus will ever be worth $2 million a year.
This is such as silly argument.

Our list managers obviously did their due diligence and rated Gibcus higher than NWM, that should be the end of the story.

And FWIW the Saints have now found themselves where they have to pay NWM $2m/year just to hold him for 2 years. Who knows? He could well be gone after those 2 years anyway. I'd be spewing if we were held to ransom like that for a player that might well be gone.

Maybe that 'go home' factor was raised during his interviews?

I, for one, am happier to have a solid team player on our list rather than one who isn't totally invested in the club.

Excited Oh No GIF

If he's shaking his head for getting subbed then he has a couple of kangaroos running around in his top paddock.
We should have drafted the best available player which was Wanganeen-Milera.
lol. He was never in consideration for a top 10 pick.

It was a great selection by Toce but even at 11 he was seen as a big reach by the saints, especially over the local product Josh Sinn.

There’s hindsight and then there’s this.

Toce did well that draft - NWM, Owens, Windhager, Oscar Adams (currently in GC's best 22).

Gibcus looked more at home on Saturday than he did at any time in the VFL. You would not know it was his first game in 2 years. Exciting for next season.

And I think it allows Balta to play a similar role to the weekend. He didn't play well, but there were times when you thought he could cause some damage running around the forward line and midfield. Big summer for both of them.

Gibcus looked every bit a player that hasn’t played for two years.

Yes you could tell he was a bit slower but he didn't get caught out of position much, tackled due to the pace of the game etc. His opponents didn't beat him obviously one-on-one that I noticed more than anyone else. He just didn't get much of it which was to be expected. I thought he looked pretty comfortable, granted without doing much.

We shouldn't have risked Gibcus yesterday.

Still waiting for Serpell's injury report. We all think he was subbed off and managed.

"Josh complained that he felt a dullness in his knee during the match, so we decided to rest him, unfortunately for Josh the scans have come back, and he is going to have an interrupted preseason".

Don't even joke about shit like that. We're all on tender hooks with fingers crossed his injury woes are over.

Not funny

Not really sure he will work out for us. Nearly all his upside was his leap/spring - hard to see how he will physically have the same impact now & i don't really know if the rest of his game is good enough to make him anything more than a "part piece"

That’s the spirit

Very good return to AFL level

Will quite easily jump the boys into #1 defender spot over the summer

We need to try to form our best defensive 7 in 2026, and get them accustomed to playing together.

You could see a future where a well co-ordinated group in this formation could create some real headaches for opposition teams:

Balta Miller Gibcus

Brown Banks Short Trainor
