Lewis Taylor

Player Profile

A three-way trade with the Brisbane Lions and Carlton enabled the Sydney Swans to land Lewis Taylor during the 2019 Telstra AFL period. What the deal secured was a young, speedy, stocky small forward who had booted 88 goals in 112 AFL games in Brisbane colours. The Lions recruited Taylor from the Geelong Falcons with pick 28 at the 2013 AFL Draft and he fired from the get-go, playing all 22 senior games en route to claiming the 2014 AFL Rising Star award. The new Swan is expected to contend with names like Ben Ronke, Sam Gray and Sam Wicks for a spot in Sydney’s forward line in 2020, although coach John Longmire could instead use him on a wing.

The Sydney Swans have secured former Rising Star winner Lewis Taylor in a three-way trade with the Brisbane Lions and Carlton on the final day of the AFL Trade Period.
The Swans traded draft picks 54 and 63 to Carlton, in exchange for pick 48, which was then on-traded to Brisbane for the speedy midfielder/forward.
Recruited by the Lions with a second-round pick in 2013, Taylor made his debut the following year, playing all 22 games and winning the prestigious AFL Rising Star Award.
The 24-year-old played a total of 112 games at the Lions, kicking 88 goals.
Swans Head of Football Charlie Gardiner said Taylor will add to the club’s midfield and forward stocks.

Thanks scaryness for moving my thread :)

We got a good deal here, before this year he was a regular best 22 player and only this year partly due to the Lions's incredible injury run was he stuck in the NEAFL. For 54 and 63 it's a solid move. Much more confident on this deal than the Thurlow and Clarke moves last year.

Should go pretty well for you guys if he plays to his strengths. Always liked him, but just got pushed out this season, I suspect because we wanted some more...presence players I guess?

Still, has heaps of offers and should be solid in the second half of his career.

Nice highlights reel :)

Most of those highlights saw him as an outside player inflicting most damage across HF. Jones replacement, Papley replacement, or even a Florent replacement as he goes inside more, take your pick.

Anyone who will tuck the ball in, arch their back, and take off, is welcome.

Busy player. That Lions NEAFL side was REALLY strong. Nothing to lose and plenty of potential upside.
