Mate you are kidding yourself if you think some players are on that much. Smack and Mitch brown would both be on under 200k plus match payments which is around 4K a game
As if Smack would reject good money deals elsewhere last year to re-sign for under 200k. You're saying he'd be on approximately half the mean and median salary in the AFL? As for match payments, they don't factor into the cap, it's a league wide standard, Noah Gown would get the same amount of match payments as Nat Fyfe.

He rejected rumoured other offers because we gave him a 2 year deal and took him off the rookie list where he wouldve been making peanuts. The average salary is around 370k ( not median, big difference) with players like hurley, shiel, heppell, daniher all on big coin (800k plus) there are players on our list which would be on far less than the average. Players only get match payments if their contract is under a certain threshold giving players on small contracts a chance to make more money. Nat fyfe wouldn't be on match payments while Noah gown would

People expect too much from him. He has had to play a role that is not his go because of injury to Daniher. He is cheap back up for both ends of the ground who will give you 100% when needed. He is not the answer to winning a GF. He is what he is. He should not cop s**t because he is not up to being an A grade KPF. Clubs need cheap back ups.

We expect a role that belongs on an AFL field.

Accept that it's not Brown's fault he's selected but here we are...

No he rejected other offers for 2 years on what would be well over what you suggest for a 175k contract? Absolutely delusional to suggest he wouldn't be around the 300k mark minimum.

And that's factually incorrect as well.

And when he is allowed to simply play lead up forward and work up and down the ground and not expected to be taking contested marks he is AFL standard. He has also proven to be AFL standard in defence. His work in the back half in 2016 was very good.
His numbers are better than James Stewart in 2017 who had the luxury of having Hooker and Dainher in top flight to play along side him.

300k minimum 😂 mate you obviously don’t know many people in the afl industry.

If you’re referring to match payments. I’d suggest you do your research

Honestly I don't think he's good enough to be anything more than a depth option in a genuinely good forward line. His contested work is incredibly weak and his possessions outside of scoring range are not dangerous at all. He takes forever to move the ball on. Is a nice set shot though and can run all day but overall as a package its not enough. The type of player that can have a day out when we're on top but when the going gets tough he disappears.

I know plenty actually. He'd clearly be on 300k, and the fact you think he's on half the average wage when he rejected offers for what would be around or above the average wage says plenty.

Why do you select him to play that role, though?

This is the most concerning thing about Worsfold. He clearly believes in the brand that involves selecting players who are allowed to actively avoid physical contact. All of the team selection and all of the positional development indicates satisfaction.

You think anyone has sat back and looked at all the contests Brown is at but doesn't impact and wonders what the total impact is?

No, they probably look at the Champion Dats player rankings.

I don't know if you noticed but we didn't exactly have contested marking KPFs coming out of the woodwork this season. Sometimes you've just got to make do with what you've got even though it's not necessarily who you'd pick for that role if everyone was fit.

It's a very simple issue for me, you pick Brown knowing that he'll do exactly what he did last night or pick Begley who may struggle for different reasons but will also throw his weight around and may just catch fire during a game.

The argument about a key forward is irrelevant because there is nothing Brown does which indicates he is a key forward. Hell, we would have been better served playing Baguley.

If you want a key forward you pick another defender and play Ambrose forward, or perhaps we're worried we'll concede too many scoring shots.

Thursday night came as absolutely no surprise. You pick Brown because you think circle work wins finals. I don't know what will happen first, Champion Data money balling footy or circle work winning a premiership. Neither is likely to happen in this millennium.

Well give us your opinion on who you select in the side then.
Who on the list or what combination would have given us better results ?
As far as brand goes the whole list lacks hard edge but strangely enough you are not a real fan of the few players who do go hard (Guelfi , Smith etc)
As far as him avoiding physical contact goes all I will say is if he is wanting to avoid physical contact then why does he continually lead at the ball and have two blokes jumping into his back 15 to 20 times a game ?

You can not be serious. Begley has been picked and contributed nothing including physical presence.
Baguley was also in the side and was far worse than Brown has been. A player who has been off the pace and kicked the odd cheap goal.
Ambrose did play forward for a bit recently and was no better.
And at the end of the day it has been our crap kicking skills that has killed us and not circle work. Circle work is working fine for the Bulldogs and Collingwood right now !

He's played the game he was always going to play and you're arguing that he should still have been allowed to play it, not just not being effective at all but squibbing every contest he is involved in when at a minimum we require physicality.

It's probably up to you to seriously argue how you justify bringing that into a final.

Sorry but you have the blinkers on. He does not squib every contest. Go back and watch our kick ins and see how many times he is the bloke being used as a step ladder for two or three opponents to start with. He has been climbed on that often he now has steps on his back.

Brown has been good for us over the period, actually think he's been a little under valued at times.
But hey, don't mind us you two keep at it.
