Not to familiar with the rules so basically the next 15 or so games left in the VFL he needs to show enough to be upgraded?

Adnico26Parker has clarified that new rules permit a player to remain on a rookie list into year 4, which I wasn't aware of.

However, I'd have thought it unlikely that a player (especially a rookie) would be retained beyond year 3 without a debut - so yep, I reckon he REALLY needs to develop and impress over the next couple of months.

Another extension for Will until 2027

Wouldn't be doing this if we didn't think he could play.

Shame about the injury, as I think he would have been close to a debut this season.

Not to anyone that has watched him play for the last 18 months. Was so close to getting a call up and then got a niggle finally a spot opened up, sick of Francis a senior player getting cheap touches in the twos and thinking he is better than Edwards
I'm with you Kbroome. Been watching him too. Very important to the seconds backline as we are seeing at the moment in his absence.

Will has lots of athletic ability such as a sub 3 second 20m sprint and an excellent leap. He is also an excellent mark and has a strong frame. All elements suitable for a KP player. What's lacking is a childhood exposure to the game as is the case with a lot of local players. With experience he will be a great asset to the side. His extension gives me some confidence that the club knows what it is doing and probably also indicates that his leg injury is not career threatening.

Yep he comes from a basketball background. He still played but definitely wasn't as exposed as other players are in footy states

Will is a project. He's got a lot of assets (size, speed, strength, athleticism, big kick) but he's got plenty to work on too. I'm not sold he'll be a successful AFL player yet but he's got so much upside that it's worth persisting. If he comes good he could be amazing. Nobody is going to monster him - but they might outwork or outsmart him.

28/12 No.28. Big Will. Sounds like a good preseason so far. Chris Keane named him as one to rise this year. Big, strong, quick and a big kick. Hopefully he can start showing enough to put pressure on the mainstays or slot in down back...Be an awesome addition for the big forwards.

Back in his Academy days Will played at both ends. His first seniors preseason game he played forward. Everything since has been down back so I'm pretty sure that's where his future lies.
He's easily our biggest defender so I remain hopeful that he, Melican and McCartin will be our tall defenders with Serong (and/or Snell) as a flexible tall/mid replacing Rampe, Blakey and hopefully Bice as the attacking half backs and Cunningham (until retirement) and Wicks on smalls.

Thanks Kiama Chris..
It was meant to read ...slot in down back with our other keys.. as others have suggested (maybe you) that one of him, McCartin or Melican intercepting.
Was also meant to read as playing on oppo big forwards..not in our fwds

Took it exactly as you meant it but just in case....
Furious agreement.
For mine we have survived remarkably as a too short backline but it seems we will have some good options.
