I think there's something to work with with Cam. Might be a long burn in terms of development but the club seems to really like him.
To me, so far, he seems like a more athletic Nick Graham. Which is a good think because I think that's what has held Nick back from being as effective in the AFL as he is in the VFL.
I reckon they've signed him on the back of lifting his forward pressure work. Undersized for a mid but he has the ability to be a 10 touch a game influencer up forward , once we get our pressure sorted over the rest of the ground.
Stabilization period people. There are others who will be cast aside before him. Two years is not always the best amount of time to prove yourself. Still young and time to improve.
He was odds on to be re-signed, and they've opted for 2 years.
With Lamb, Graham, LeBois, Mullett and Shaw likely gone at the end of the year, and Simpson, Thomas and Murphy no spring chickens, it's the optimal move.
Unexpected as he hasn't shown anything but it's good that the powers that be are backing their judgement because inevitably it's their call and judgement that dictates our future.
Have to say I haven't seen or been impressed a great deal with Polson but I can see how he may turn into a decent footballer. Lots to work on.
I don't mind some faith being shown in young players and giving them adequate time to mature before making judgement if they think they have a decent player.
I would think 4 years for inside midfielders, 4-5 years for talls, around 3 years for smaller quicker players. Can be hard to allow players this time with the need to make big list changes but this sets an interesting precedence.
Good small players his size is actually what we need. Big key position players and big midfielders aren't adding to the tackling and pressure we desperately lack so if he can prove a clean ball handler, add a tougher approach to his game and play with a strong intent to tackle as Fisher has been then he could make a pretty handy player. Tigers winning a flag with guys like Prestia, Castagna and Rioli. These are the sorts we are desperate for so good luck to him.
I like Cam Polson. I still remember his first qtr against Port Adelaide last year and his run down tackle.
Just probably needs to build a tank as I think he runs out of steam in the 2nd half? Knows wheres the goals are, just needs to clean up with his finishes.
