George Hewett

George Hewett is regularly praised in the media by his teammates and coach John Longmire for his steadfast reliability. Regardless of whether the 2013 draftee is tasked with winning the footy or blanketing a ball magnet, he has the full trust of the Sydney Swans camp. Dustin Martin, Patrick Cripps and Shaun Higgins are just some of the gun midfielders Hewett has shut down in his unheralded career as a Swan. The South Australian carved out a career-best season in 2019 en route to finishing second in the Bob Skilton Medal voting, joining star duo Dane Rampe and Luke Parker on the podium.

ABsolutely love the way George goes about it, gets zero praise from anyone outside of the club but the kid is a bloody gun. NO fuss about the way he goes about it just gets in and has a crack.

As far as I am concerned Hewett is one of the most underrated players on our list. He is one of our best kicks (in that he can actually hit a target), he averaged almost 19 disposals this year despite playing as a tagger in some games and he is also generally really reliable as it isn't often I have ever thought "wow Hewett had a bad game".

He isn't even 22 yet, and given his disposals in 2016 was 13.0 and in 2017 it was 18.7 it isn't unreasonable to think he might start averaging 22 or 23 disposals a game in 2018, especially if he isn't tagging as much.

I fully expect that this year he might turn out to be as good as Dawson.

Yeah it's a joke how little appreciation Hewett gets in the media. You'd swear Heeney and Mills are the only two young guns on our list. Meanwhile Hewett is playing pretty bloody consistent footy in an elite side for a 21 year old.

(Btw when Hewett and Lloyd eventually get in a picture together I call shotgun for the avatar)

If you were a real fan you'd stalk them and get the picture yourself.

So Awesome to have George locked in for at least 3 more seasons. Definitely a contender for a breakout year next year. Will be an AFL household name by the end of the 2018 season.

Terrific news. Brave, skilful, great decision maker and excellent kick. Hope this future club leader is around for another 10 years.

Sorry to interrupt the ongoing hagiography,

but I'll be watching George's statistics for 1% 'ers and team plays. Shepherds, protection of marking teammates, blocking space and tactically running an opponent away from the play. Things that don't necessarily appear on the stats sheet.

He's not the finished article just yet.

He does all of those things. And I know because he’s one of my favourite Swans and those reasons you list are a few reasons why he is so.

He finished 5th in the B&F, which suggests he's doing almost all of the team things wanted from the coaches.

Thought this was worth a bump, given he only debuted in Round 1 2016 yet plays his 50th game today.

I expect George would not be happy with his performance. First time in a while he has struggled to get into the game.

He was no where near our worst, and still had 20 touches. Decent game. But shows how far he's come that such a performance is considered sub-par for him.
