Although number 3 in the Ruck pecking order, Lycett is already a Force of nature to deal with.

He's like a young Dean Cox, but with better hands.
He's around the same height, and has funky hair.
We all like big Cox, but I like Lycetts more.
He's got forward prowess, and ruck prowess too.
Wont' be as good as Naitanui, which is sadly true.
However he'll be a boss, to be certainly reckoned with
So let's hear it, because the CHAMPION IS HERE!

Really looking forward to a big year in the WAFL with Lycett, hope he can continue to develop and add to his game. Perhaps if he plays well also, he can slip in for another few games, which would be ideal :D

I hope that Lycett can impose himself on the WAFL and push for selection at the Eagles. It would be great to have a third reliable ruckman so that we could rest Cox and Natanui during the season.

Big news!
With Cox and NN to not be played as much in the NAB cup, Lycett will be the man/boss/beast holding down the fort in the ruck division. Lycett fans rejoicing everywhere :thumbsu:

Firstly can I say sorry to hear about Mark LeCras. I was wondering if the word is that this big fella will get a bigger look in because of his forward ability? Supercoach you see. Thanks

The only answer I can give to that question is "maybe". We do have more tall options than small ones however so I think that Lycett's best chance of getting a game is if we rest either a ruckman or a tall forward during the season (or if, perish the thought, one of our first choice ruckmen suffers an injury !)

I would say he needs another year in the WAFL.
He's developing nicely however :thumbsu:

With Nic Nat out, Scotty played today, with a quiet day.
3 kicks, 4 handballs, 3 marks, 2 tackles and a goal.

Played mainly deep forward where he was a target on a few occasions. Competed well, but his lack of strength was evident in one on one. Moved and presented well, however lost his footing on numerous occasions. Only his second game of his career, again he was quiet but looks set to build on it.

Thanks to Reminiscence for his work in this thread so far :thumbsu: . I'll be taking over from here.

I thought I'd try and make this thread into a bit of an archive and hopefully make it a good read when Lycett makes it.

First up is some predraft articles, whilst obeying bigfooty quoting rules, so there is more to the articles than what is quoted

The most interesting story among the seven talls belongs to Lycett. The strapping prospect is from Thevenard, near Ceduna on the Great Australian Bight, about eight hours’ drive from Adelaide. His original senior footy club is the Thevenard Magpies.

Lycett played a season of senior footy with Thevenard when he was 15. The Magpies played in the Far West league, which has only four teams. They lost every game during the home-and-away rounds but won in the first week of the finals after Lycett kicked seven at full-forward.

In his own words
What type of player are you?
Tall, agile and competitive.

Which AFL player do you feel you resemble, and why?
Matthew Kreuzer. He knows where to go around the ground and also go forward and be dangerous.

What are your strengths as a footballer?
Competitiveness, will do anything for the benefit of the team, have a willingness to get better as a person and player, and I want to learn.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?
Goalkicking, my hands in the ruck to palm the ball down to the midfielders, and getting more marks around the ground.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
Brisbane Lions. When I was younger, I used to go for them because they used to win all the time, but now because I admire all of the players. A big influence was my favourite player, Jonathan Brown.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far, and why?
Corey Siemers, because I’m doing everything for him, but also my dad. He’s always calling me up checking to see how my footy’s going, because he knows it’s my dream to play in the AFL.

Phantom Draft from 2010. Predicted by Paul Daffey to go at pick 16 to Port Adelaide.

16. PORT ADELAIDE - Scott Lycett
Height:
202cm
Weight: 98kg
DOB: 26/09/92
Club: Port Adelaide Magpies (SA)
Draft range: 15-25
Sometimes the best selections are under your nose. Lycett broke into senior ranks at the Port Magpies this season, having left his hometown on South Australia's far west coast to concentrate on footy in Adelaide. He showed a strong nerve and willingness to compete. They're very Port Adelaide qualities.

All the best with Lycett. Was tempted to sponsor him again since I really rate him highly, but decided to get a change of pace.
I think he'll really blossom this year in the WAFL, seems to be in great shape in the pre-season photos also.

I'll try and get something in here once every 2 weeks for the offseason.

Continuing on

From knowledgeable poster Knightmares 2010 Phantom Draft

#16 (Port Adelaide) – Scott Lycett (SA)
Height: 202cm, Weight: 98kg, DOB: 26/09/1992
Recruited from: Port Adelaide Magpies
Style: Darren Jolly/Dean Cox
Range: 12-24
Why: Tall, powerful type ruckman who has underrated mobility and can move. Good hands. Can crash packs. Gets the ball around the ground. Strong overhead. I don’t think he will lose much athleticism as he adds muscle. After Gorringe, Lycett is the other standout ruckman and the only other ruckman in the 1st round conversation. At this stage is a great value selection who in a couple of years will no doubt develop into a very good no.1 ruck option. Port Adelaide sound pretty content with their ruck stocks, but I don’t see it and think Lycett just represents superior value and really sets up their stocks for a number of years. Why not take the local product when he is the best available selection?

From the 2010 Bigfooty Official Phantom draft, grub29

I don't think he'll get this far in the real thing but he is just too good of a player to see him fall any further.

PICK 21- SYDNEY - Scott Lycett 26/09/92 202cm 98kg(Port Magpies)

This pick caused me some concern as Lycett was a player that I didn't even consider due to the fact I thought he'd be gone much earlier. To be perfectly honest I didn't see his type as a player Sydney really needed at the moment. However having said all that I see him as just far too good of a player to pass up on at this stage. Initially I thought Cook was going to fall my way but Ysaye just pipped me. Other players I had in mind were medium types and I thought at least a couple would get to my next pick at 39.
In regards to Lycett he is a man mountain who can ruck well and has shown up forward he can be a very dangerous offensive weapon with his ability to take a catch. His mobility is good for a player of his size and I see him as being a very competitive type. The only issue I have with him is his kicking which at this stage does need work but like Kirk Tippett he has so many other positives. As far as list management goes Sydney would now have Mumford,Seaby,Pyke,Currie,Lycett and even White as ruck options and there won't be spots for them all.As a result he won't have to be rushed into the team and it could even give Currie a chance forward and Pyke down back.I'd think this pick is more best available than a needs pick but I have him top 10 and I'd think many others would as well.

25. BRIS LIONS
SCOTT LYCETT

Vital information: 18, from Port Adelaide Magpies. 202cm, 98kg. Hugely nimble and athletic ruckman who can also play forward and haul in a mark.
The rationale: Someone, at some point, has to pick this kid. The Lions are looking to stock up their midfield, but if Lycett is available they have either Matthew Leuenberger's long-term ruck partner or a key forward to start grooming for life after Jonathan Brown and Brendan Fevola, having given Lachie Henderson away. Too good to leave sitting there.
Best-laid plans: He may already be gone. The Lions' midfield intentions may lead them to Tasmanian Josh Green or Dandenong Stingray Mitch Hallahan. One or both should be there at their next pick, No. 28.

Lycett Happy to Fly West

http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news/2010-11-24/lycett-happy-to-fly-west

"I've been playing predominantly in the ruck the last couple of years, but I've been lucky enough to play forward when I was younger, so I guess it's another string to my bow," he said.

"I don't just want to play one position; you're more dangerous when you play two, so I'm pretty lucky in the respect that I can play two positions.

"I'm here with them, so I've got a lot to learn off them and I'm sure they're going to teach me a lot. That's going to make me a better player."

What the Club Says
http://www.westcoasteagles.com.au/news/2010-11-18/what-the-club-says
Selection No.29: Scott Lycett (Port Adelaide Magpies)

"He's a very athletic kid for his size - quick and agile. He's a ruckman but he probably played more of his junior footy as a key forward. But he's now over 200cms so he's going to do a lot of ruckwork. He's also 98kgs, so physically he's almost ready to step up in play in the AFL straight away."

West Coast Eagles Sam Butler and Scott Lycett ink two-year deals

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sp...k-two-year-deals/story-e6frexx0-1226411086488
Lycett, 19, has played just three games at senior level after making his debut at the end of last season, but is highly regarded as a future key-position prospect.

The 203cm forward/ruckman is currently on the injured list as he recovers from a knee problem, but is expected to be available by the end of the season.

With Nic Nats latest groin problems Lycett has begun to pop up a bit in the news lately, so thought I'd try and get a move along with this thread.

From Dean Cox:
Cox said the players were confident 20-year-old Lycett, who has played just three times in his first two seasons, was ready to step up.

"He's come on in leaps and bounds," he said.

"Just his soft hands, his control with the footy and his body positioning in ruck contests.

"I think he's getting a little bit more mature and starting to really understand how to position himself to try and control the stoppage.

"It's been really good to push each other all the way through the pre-season and try and learn from each other as well.
http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/af...out-nic-naitanui/story-e6frg1zu-1226562542899

From Justin Longmuir:
Assistant coach Justin Longmuir said West Coast had depth in the ruck department if Naitanui was unavailable for the start of the season, with 20-year-old Scott Lycett ready to emerge.
"He's really come of age this pre-season, he's training the house down," Longmuir told Perth radio station SPORTFM 91.3.
"Hopefully he can take his game to a new level.
"If [Naitanui] comes up for round one that will be great, but we've got the cover if he doesn't come up for round one.

And from the man himself

Lycett ready to fill Nic Nat's boots

http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/-/afl/15856943/lycett-ready-to-fill-nic-nats-boots/

"I've come back pretty fit over the pre-season and give myself every chance," Lycett said.
"Hopefully I have caught the coach's eye. If I'm training well and everything else is going well, I'm pretty sure Woosha (coach John Worsfold) will give me a chance.

Hopefully will have a chance to go through the Preseason thread and add a few posters views before round 1 of the NAB cup in the next few weeks
