Hughes should be batting at 3 for us instead of Watson. He's a good style for number 3, takes the attack to the pacemen and is better at facing spin with a few runs on the board.

People point to the reason he's not in the team because of "technical issues" when against pace he's cleaned up his game to the point he now has bugger all technical weaknesses. Against spin he struggles but no less than our current two openers do. In India he displayed his work ethic by becoming our most convincing bat against spin by the end of the series after looking totally lost to start it. He was batting beautifully and was robbed twice when he was batting very very well.

His ashes series in England wasn't a case of "he had his chance and failed" it was a case of he didn't get a full chance at it when he was probably our one young batsman who deserved to be perservered with. Should never have been dropped after his first match.

Give him time eto get his new technique honed - you don't just make changes overnight here's today's effort - when the game is on the line and he's under pressure;

Over 6.3: Abbott to Hughes, no run, OUT, wrong shot, looks to flick a straight ball to leg and hit bang in front, wow

Under pressure you will do whatever comes naturally or what you have trained yourself to do. He's been treated like a yo yo enough, let him get it right first.
