Harris for 12th man. 4 quicks is overkill. If they want a 4th medium quick theyd need to drop a top order batsman and play Christian. Thats just my opinion

As for Haddin geez he looked scratchy in the Boxing Day test. Who can replace him but? The only good news i've heard about Wade is for his batting not his ability to keep. Maybe being in the west we dont hear as much about his keeping but all i've heard is raving about his batting.

Next in line if anyone in my opinion is Hartley but its only a short term solution

It's only this past year that Haddin has really fallen off as a batsman. People forget he was our second best batsman in the Ashes.
Third best. Watson was a bit better. Also, a year is a long time, especially in cricket and it has been a horrible test year for Haddin.

I like the squad, as mentioned, why make changes to a team that just made 300+ against a team ranked no 2 in the world and then proceeded to bowl them out for sub 300 twice?

For all the Haddin v Wade discussion.

As posted in another thread, he is simply a last resort. CA rate Paine very, very highly, once he is fit and finds form, he will be right in the mix, can't do that in the T20 cluster of the summer, so with Haddin v Wade, it is really a like for like replacement, might as well go with the 'proven quantity' and stick with Haddin and hope he comes good, after all, class is permanent, form is temporary.

Think that Harris will be 12th man and possibly even relesased for Big Bash duties (is there even any coinciding games in the test dates?) whilst I like the fact that the selectors have stuck by Cowan and Warner, not pulling shotgun on them.

Overall, a good team and one that will hopefully back up from the first test.

Regarding the Indians, does anyone follow the Indian first class system?? I know they have quite a number of tiers due to have about 30 first class teams, but i've found some blokes who have quite unbeliavable records who are young;

Ajinkja Rahan (11 ODi's, 23yo, 5000 FC runs at 68) - http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/277916.html

Abhinan Mukand (5 Tests this year, 21yo, 4500 FC runs 58) - http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/302582.html

Rohit Sharma (well known - in this touring squad) - 70 ODI's, 24yo, 3700 FC runs at 62 - http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/34102.html

One would suggest with that many first class teams there is bound to be some absolute dead meat in the competition, and indian pitches are notoriously good for batting, but those are some crazy numbers.

Katich- not only the best batsman in Australia, but he was replaced by a couple of Spuds in Khawaja and Hughes, and only a matter of time before Warner gets the chop also.
Yeah, only got 123 two tests ago. The message we want to send to our new batsmen is that they need to score a ton per test match to keep their spot.

Geez their is some shit posted around here.

Then I have no idea why Haddin continues to get selected despite dropping catches, having terrible footwork and being generally incompetent at everything he does, and without a doubt the worst player in the test side for the past 3 years being far worse than MJ has at his absolute worst.
This is ridiculous. Yeah, he has at times been ordinary, bordering on atrocious, and certainly worthy of being dropped, but to say he's been our worst player is ridiculous. The Ashes, for one. Without Haddin and Hussey, we lose 5-0.

And MJ's worst is much worse than Haddin's worst.

Katich is obviously the best batsmen in the country - when his Sheffield Shield record for the season shows that he is nowhere relative to his peers, with an average of 39.50, well below Warner and Khawaja. Don't let facts get in the way of being contrary. Clinging to nostalgia and memories of the past will get the team nowhere.

Would you like to compare tests stats while your at it? Katich beats Warner, Khawaja and Hughes hands down. How Katich can be Australia's top run getter in the past 3 years, and with the highest test average in that time of 50, and was ranked 5th best batsman in the world mid 2010, to suddenly be behind these guys is a joke. And to add, his form hardly dropped off, scoring a 50 and two 40s in his last couple of knocks.

Hows that for facts? We can include Hughes (Test avg of 34), Khawaja (Test avg of 29) and Warner (Test avg of 48- not bad with that not out- but he wont last)

Labelling Khawaja a spud doesn't do your credibility any good.

But yes, let's cling on to Katich and remember the good old days when we dominated Pakistan and the Windies.

Im not looking for credibility, the whole selection committee is rigged, everyone knows it, if people dont, then they dont know Australian cricket as well as they might like.

Katich has better recent test match stats than any cricketer in the country, and most of the world, what more do you want out of him.

In his final 2 series before being dropped/injured

6, 37, 43, 24, 50, 4, 0, 43

Which test cricketers does he have better recent test match stats than? I'd say everyone in the team has a higher top score in the last 2 series than he does.

Whilst I didn't agree that he should be dropped, anyone who thinks he deserves to come back in has lost the plot.

Katich a) isn't in form and b) is a childish sook who blames everyone else for his problems. Him and his tantrums can stay away from the Test side.

And rickyp, Katich wasn't dropped. He tore his achilles remember.

Harris to be 12th Man and to injure himself running drinks on.

I wasn't sure to be honest, I can't really remember the whole saga. Now you mention it, that does sound right.

Was more hoping to point out that this record breaking form prior to the incident was false.

his dropped catches massively outweighed his runs scored.

Had he held on to some key catches, it may have been a different outcome.

MJ won a test match off his bowling and gave us rubbish the rest of the time. Haddin scored some runs and lost us a couple of test matches because of his crappy keeping.

He is pitiful and his continued selection a joke.

when Cowan and Warner were coming out to bat, Slats had no issue telling the world "here come the 2 NSW to open the batting."
