I'm blaming the new 6-6-6 rule .. I have no evidence what so ever but it has to be the only explanation.

Of the 3 injured they are all backmen right? Less protection from their team mates = more ACL's from one on ones
Satan gleefully getting his own back on God now he has his own rule and running amok.

I’m expecting a lot of injuries, not necessarily knees. it really stood out how exhausted players were during games on the weekend as they seemed to be getting caught out running back and forth and obviously no runners/ less rotations.
It might take time but the footy was pretty poor as a result I thought.

Why has LARS dropped off?
Some reasons that I can think of (but have no knowledge of):
Artificial tendon not strong enough
Tendon connection to the bone failing
More susceptible to rejection/infection
Limited lifespan of artificial tendon

I still think its just random variance/cyclical. I remember periods during the 90s (thinking whenever Shaun Rehn went down) when there seemed to be an epidemic of players doing knees at times but then things seemed to have improved in recent years.

3 ACL in the opening round...teams play 22 games in a season...3 x 22 = 66. 6 points for a goal, add that on and you’ve got 6-6-6.

Basically the Da Vinci Code.

I heard Graham Cornes make a comment (probably his observation) of the upper body strength of footballers compared to years gone by, assuming he meant compared to lower body.

Really devastated over Rance. We've generally been pretty fortunate with injuries the last few years, so i guess it was our turn.

Worst injury at Richmond since Browny broke his leg.

Gee I still remember that on TV..... horrid.

I still get a yucky feeling thinking about Browny's injury.

I just loved how he played the game

A lot of ACL's are done by swiveling on a planted foot. Has anyone thought of a design for boot stops in a circle under the ball of the foot that allows swiveling?

Hard surfaces after summer.
I remember hearing someone over the weekend say that they tend to happen earlier in the season. Might have been a physio on the radio, if anyone else heard it let me know.
Survivor bias IMO. Anyone prone to doing a knee is less likely to be playing deeper into the season (because they've done their knee), making it seem like knee injuries are more likely earlier in the season.

Came in to say this, mid to late 90s there seemed to be heaps of them. North/west part of Subi was even dubbed 'knee corner' at some stage iirc.

There always seems to be more at the start of the season, maybe the players bodies aren’t as conditioned as they are in the middle of the year, maybe it’s theat the grounds are harder?
One theory is that they do a fair bit of extra strength work during preseason. Big muscles become more powerful quicker than ligaments can compensate thus the ligaments sometimes can't handle the additional strain of more powerful muscles.
