Montagna: “Their talent is there. You look across the board and there’s talent everywhere, but what’s the best mix? Where do they play? I’m looking at the midfield and I think there’s a lot of names in this midfield – Parish, Hobbs, Caldwell, Setterfield, Durham’s been thrown in there, Tsatas, Shiel, Perkins – but what’s their best combination? For me, it has to be built around Darcy Parish. I think he’s their No. 1 man in the midfield. He actually rates as one of the best midfielders in the game. Fourth for average clearances, third for disposals, third for score involvements, which would surprise some people. He’s their clearance man, he’s their Lachie Neale. I think they need to build their midfield around him.”

Spot on, and probably also worth noting there isn't another spot on the field for him where his production would be worth shifting him.

He is #1 picked in the middle for me, and our plans should go from there.

Whereas Merrett i can see being valuable on a wing, off HB, at HF

It is a pre-season match obviously with less heat on, so I'll hold off on saying he's changed.

But across this, the intraclub, and to a lesser extent the match sim against STK, he looks like he has made strides at absorbing contact in genuine contested ball situations and fighting through it. It'd be a massive improvement if this could become part of his game every week.

Thought his kicking was pretty good on the outside today too.

Apparently came off the track with hamstring tightness. Hasn’t got a scan yet, guess we’ll find out next week.
Perfect timing for a guy who was ready to explode.
Players exploding? Is that how bad it has to get before we sack the strength and conditioning department? 💥

No and I don't want or need to hear it a day after yesterday's game. I can only take so much misery within 24 hours.
Last night’s result was definitely a shocker, but don’t worry, I personally can’t wait to see how our boys respond after we’re 46 points down in the second quarter at the gabba 🙃
