Dylan Stephens
The Sydney Swans used their first pick five since Jarrad McVeigh in 2002 to lock in a talented midfielder from South Australian club Norwood at the 2019 AFL Draft. Dylan Stephens is a prolific ball-winner and creative user of the footy by hand and foot. He played predominantly on a wing in the early matches of the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships before starring on the inside in the final match, gathering 33 disposals in a best-on-ground performance. A penetrating left-footer, he averaged 23.8 disposals and 4.8 tackles across the 2019 AFL Under-18 Championships and was rewarded with All Australian honours. He also played some excellent football at senior level with Norwood, averaging 18.2 disposals and 4.6 tackles in 12 matches. Stephens enjoyed a breakout season for the Bloods in 2020 with a memorable AFL debut in Round 6 against Richmond alongside fellow debutant, Chad Warner. Stephens finished the campaign with eight appearances, averaging 12.5 disposals and 3.4 marks per game, while also kicking two goals.

I can see why Dylan would want to move. He's competing with the likes of Gulden, McInerney, Campbell etc for the positions he's suited to and he's not going to elevate his game playing in the VFL.

Going to a team where he can get a full season on the wing or off half back is a smart choice. Personally I'd prefer him to stay as I think he's good depth, but I certainly won't be crying into my pillow at night over this one.

Personally, I can’t see why anyone would EVER want to move to Victoria.

Come at me.

This is the issue for me, and Dubai Quacker would know a fraction more than me probably. His best games as a junior were more inside not outside. I feel whatever club he goes to whether it be us or not, should be playing him there he's not a winger really.

Proper footy state where sporting discussions are not interrupted by talk of league or rah rahs and what super chap from Scotts college is going to be the next Wallabies full back.
Not having to explain the rules of footy to numerous noobs every time a game of AFL is on tv.
Proper four seasons weather where you have a legitimate excuse to hibernate for four months each year and binge watch and talk about footy.

What more could you want ?

(Oh and it's a shedload cheaper)

Omg that reminds me of the cringe worthy time when the powers that be at the scg used to put up on the big screen what free kicks were for.

Which is fine in itself, helpful for those new to the game, except that half the time they were wrong.

So what about Stephens

Stephens probably gone ....don't think we will get much back maybe third rounder. If he's sat on a contract offer for most of the season then there's two things ...him and his manager definitely think he can get more elsewhere (money and opportunities) and...Swans have made the offer and are sticking to their guns on what they think he's worth.
North would be favourites and I don't see any significant bidding war for him even if another club or two get involved. He just hasn't put together enough good games over his four years to drive any significant trade value.

Yeah, we've probably given him a depth contract and he's after a best 22 contract, $$-wise.

Be surprised if he stayed tbh, there would be at least a couple of clubs who could offer him a guaranteed starting spot.

Looked very close to the crows players after the game tonight and was that Stephens that was shaking Matthew Nicks hand at the end of the game?

Do you jump at your own shadow as well?

The handshake was just so Dylan could surreptitiously hand him a note. “It hit the post”, it read. Nicks can sleep easy tonight.
