Averaging over the last 5 rounds:

22.5 disposals, 5.2 tackles, 5.5 clearances, 95 rankings points.

If he finishes with those averages at the end of the season, he should finish top 15 in clearances and top 30 in tackles.

He's actually a much better clearance mid than Ziebell amazingly.

This is what north saw in him when that traded for him.
His improvement this year has taken me by surprise, but it just shows injuries can play a big part in our perceptions.
I remember Hawthorn supporters were disappointed to lose him and now we are seeing why.
Adds so much to the team

Love his desperation and tenacity. God he needs to polish up his foot skills. Even his hurried kicks are lucky to travel 25m. But his start to the season has been impressive I must say.

Just a casual reminder that the trade effectively ended up like this:

In: Anderson, McKay, Clarke
Out: Bastinac, Burton, Kirby

With pick 55 going to GWS and being used for points. I'd say we did pretty well all up.
It's Terry Wallace that always needs that reminder....

His career was on his death bed. No contract, injured arm in the final weeks of the pre-season, most had lost faith in his ability as an AFL footballer.

He decided to give it one last red hot crack, get as fit as possible and try get his tank up to a standard so he could play as a midfielder. Paid his own way to Utah despite having a young family....trained his arse off in the gym, trained his arse off on the track. Followed his nutrition plan down to each individual calorie.

Comes out and has played like a man possessed. He has courage in spades and the tenaciousness of a pit bull. Its a real credit to the kid who was struggling mentally only 18 months ago.

I'm not usually that glowing of Brad Scott, but what hasn't been mentioned so far is that is that Scott gave him that midfield spot and said 'make it your own'... he backed him to the hill and Anderson has rewarded him in spades.

Credit to Jed for busting his arse in the pre-season and credit to the coaching staff for believing in him and giving him an extended crack as a genuine inside mid.

Along with the returning Jacobs & Wright its a real feel good story for 2018.

Now the question is...how good can this kid be? He is showing that he has all the tools to be much more than just a solid citizen. Can't wait to see how his career progresses throughout this year and the future!

Well done Jed!! Stoked for you!

This is what has me excited.

You have to remember back to when he was drafted.

He was a pre-selection for GWS (Like how we traded for Cam Richardson, how the Pies got Jamie Elliott etc), I remember when Hawthorn traded random picks and Stephen Gilham, that seemed like an absolute steal, as he was an extremely talented player and in most mock drafts ranging from 7-20.

He was a borderline top 10 talent and was hyped as one of the best talents out of the NT in the last 15 years (like Cyril). He was tough, hard, inside/outside, athletic, goal kicking midfleder

He looked extremely good at Hawthorn early days, Dermie was particularly glowing in commentary "This kid will be the best player at Hawthorn in 3-4 years etc"

He is nowhere near finished developing, now that he looks like delivery on his potential, he could legit end up our best midfielder, he has the natural talent.

His ground and handball game is nearing perfection, all that's needed is a cleaner kickout disposal and more shots on goal and he can be a midfielder type that turns the game on its head. He's getting better each week and that's all you need.

Lovin' ya lately as usual Jeddy.

This is the type of stuff that I love to find out about. Along with Jacobs and Wright (and Tarrant before them), there's a real resilience with this group I believe. Really personifies the "Never Defeated" mantra.

Have never got a player so wrong.

Was great yesterday and he is the complete opposite of last season. Happy for him and the club,
Lot of us were wrong about him. Myself included.

His attack on footy is top notch. You know when you get tackled by Jed. Because of him and Jacobs the rest of our mids are walking taller. 2 biggest reasons why we look so much better defensively as a team.

When he was recruited a few Hawks supporters where annoyed.I heard on SEN 1 day Dermie raved about him and he said North had a gun when we got him.
It’s amazing you have a injury free run and a good preseason and it bloody helps. He paid for himself to go to Utah and just worked his butt off.
Well done Jed keep it up and a good contract will come Your way.Brad Scott gave him a chance well done Brad

Happy to admit I got him wrong. After last year I thought he was on the scrap heap. Playing on a flank and funmbling everything that came his way. The turn around is remarkable, his effort to run both ways is exceptional.

I think people were a little peeved that we gave up 15 and Burton was looking like a gun for the Hawks. 9 months on I wouldn’t swap this bloke for Burton. Jed makes that midfield such a better unit.

If he takes the next step and those disposals climb into mid 20s you are looking at a borderline A grader.
Take out rounds 1&2 and he’s about there. His last 6 games have been borderline A grade. He’s providing that 2 way mid that we were screaming for.

Jed and Benny J have transformed our middle.

Improving every week

Thomas Loftus

Prior to this season, few people outside Arden St would have foreseen the impact Jed Anderson would make on the North Melbourne team in 2018.

But internally, he was doing the hard work, and those working closely with him knew it was only a matter of time before he stamped himself on the game. “He’s getting an injury-free run, which is the most important thing,” Brad Scott told the media after the game against Richmond. “Jed went away with a single-minded focus to get fitter in the off-season, which included taking himself off to Utah (1-4 year players trip), which he funded himself, and got himself as fit as he’s ever been.”

For the third time this season, Anderson eclipsed his AFL-high for disposals in a game, picking up 28 against the Tigers on Sunday. Used primarily as an outside mid or small forward, Anderson had struggled to nail down a place in the Roos’ best 22 in his previous two seasons as a result of mixed form and a tough run with injuries. But after earning a role as an inside midfielder in 2018, North’s number three has thrived.

His aggressive nature and attack of the ball has given the team’s engine room an added dimension, and has enabled players like Jack Ziebell and Shaun Atley to play and impact more in the forward line. His ability to win the ball in contests has also lightened the load on Ben Cunnington, who has himself thrived this season. And the stats are backing up Anderson’s growing influence and importance.

In his 25 career games pre-2018, Anderson failed to reach 20 disposals in a single game. Involved in each of North’s eight games so far, the 24-year-old has reached 20 disposals on four occasions. “The opportunity to play in our midfield has shown everybody what he can do,” Scott added. “He’s a pretty unique player, and he’s becoming really important for us.”

As one bloke always says. I like the way he goes about it.
he stank it up in the Melbourne game earlier this year, but has showed great endeavour since.

Now if he can polish off his finishing then we will be on our way.
